Rookie Contract Negotiations

Where do the funds come from this?

If a team has this kind of financials will they be able to sign their free agents?

dont know ask the pirates and royals, but at 74 mil payroll if thats your team i would trade a butt load of ppl away. also if its your team the owner shoudnt approve anything high as far as signing bonuses. 1 team/league i had going as the White Sox in 2005 i was broke and couldnt sign the top pick in teh draft to the 4 million he wanted nor the 2nd rounder to the 800 k he wanted.

i traded away several players and was left with a 28 mil payroll.

I know from my experience that if you are broke, you can still sign all of your draft picks, but the owner usually won't let you offer more than the amount of the recomended slot bonus. So if the draft pick wants more than the recomended slot bonus, it will be very hard to sign him being that you can't offer him more than that.

My understanding of the system is that the owner will not approve any bonus over the recommended slot if the team has no money available for signing free agents.

So that team will be able to sign its draft picks, but only if it drafts players who are willing to accept the recommended slot bonus.

Related question:

If I make an above-slot offer to a draftee on 6/14, but then trade for two players on 6/15 that increase my payroll and consume the entirety of my Free Agent budget, will the bonus offer made on the 14th still stand since I was still under budget on that day, or will the offer be voided as soon as I go over budget?

Thanks guys!
