8/2/2013 I need to tell you about Vincent Padilla of Seattle. On June 26th he pitched 13.2 no-hit innings against KC before allowing his first hit, which resulted in the only run given up the whole game. He got maybe the toughest loss in baseball history. A little over a month later he went up against Minnesota and completed what he had attempted in June. He threw a complete game no-hitter and Seattle won 2-0. He is 9-9 this season with a 3.04 ERA. You really have to respect a guy who can come back the way he did after losing a 14-inning heartbreaker. I tip my cap to you Padilla. |

9/1/2013 I am now 6-13 with 4.24 ERA. I pitched terrible all month and I am really disappointed. My ERA last month was 6.25. On ESPN they said, “It looks like B-Hawk needs to fly down to AAA for some work.” It’s probably true; I have been pitching like a mediocre minor leaguer. I have completely lost my grip on this sport. I am over thinking everything and everything is getting inside my head. This is the first time in my career where I feel like hitters are better than me. I used to think they hit me because I made bad pitches, but not now. I am pitching scared and things need to change. Also, we have no chance in the wild card now. The month was terrible for the team too. We’re now 66-67, and we’re freshly off of a seven game losing streak. Everything is terrible right now. I really hope I can pull my head out and finish this season strong. |

11/10/2013 We ended the season .500 at 81-81. I ended the season going 8-15 with a 4.30 ERA. I haven’t played now for over a month and I am still disgusted with the way I threw. I really need to make an adjustment; because there is no way I’m going to pitch an entire career as a mediocre pitcher. Around the league; the Mets beat Boston in six games to win the World Series. Jimmy Journal of BOS and C.c. Sabathia won the Cy Young awards this year. Sabathia was 18-6 with a 1.69 ERA. That’s the type of season I need to have within the next couple years. Last years rookie of the year winner, Andres Leon came back to win his first MVP award year. He hit .311 with 35 bombs and 118 RBI’s. He is only 25, so he has a bright future. This year first pick in the draft, Albert Rison has already playing in the big leagues. He only hit .204, but he managed to swipe 14 bags in limited playing time. The scary thing is that he’s still just 18 years old. I wonder how long it’s going to take him to develop into a star. Anyway, I am going back to living with Wilson and Demiras in the off-season. I haven’t talked to Tracie for almost a month now, so I am guessing that we are through. I could tell she was getting sick of me always being moody. This off-season is going to be different for me. Demiras and I are going to work harder because both of us had disappointing seasons. He only had 7 homers and hit just .270 in nearly 500 at-bats. Okay, I am done. Until next time… |

1/14/2014 Last night was another one of those nights. We had the biggest party at our place. Wilson actually got arrested because he refused to turn the music down. Then this morning I was reading the paper and I saw a nice little write up about how we are all party animals and that we don’t take baseball seriously. They went on to target me directly by saying, “Hawks is the poster child for partying. His numbers last season are definitive proof.” Well, now I am pissed. Now I am done partying during this off-season. I am going to prove them wrong this year and I’ll back it up with my pitching. Until next time… |

3/3/2014 One more time the Rockies go after pitchers in the off-season. This year we picked up set-up man Emanuel Figueiredo for 3.4 million bucks. He is one of the premier relievers in the game, but I really want more offense on this damn team. We did get a right fielder named Mark Smith, but he’s probably not going to do much for us. It looks like this is another year where I’m going to lose a bunch of close games. Anyway, I am still the number one pitcher on the team. Coach says that’s not going to change unless my ERA balloons over 5. I really like that he has so much confidence in me. It makes me feel better knowing that my job is not in jeopardy. Anyhow, now it’s off to spring training. |

4/8/2014 Tell me if this sounds like it would happen to me. So far after two starts I have a .82 ERA, but my record is 0-0. My team refuses to score runs when I am pitching. I should request a trade. |

4/19/2014 Yesterday I pitched against Arizona. In 2 innings I gave up four runs before leaving the game with a hyper extended elbow. I am being placed on the 15 day disabled list for the first time in my career. I am actually okay with sitting on the DL. So far this season I have 4 starts with a 2.61 ERA, yet my record is 0-0. The frustration keeps building. I am going to be fine watching for a couple weeks. Maybe it will give me some time to cool off. |

5/31/2014 I lost today for the first time this year. Apparently spending time on DL is exactly what I needed, because in the month of May I went 5-1 with a 2.51 ERA. This is by far the best month of my career. My team is also doing really well. Right now we are one game out of first with a 33-22 record. This is the best we have been since my 2012 rookie season. Our team is playing great right now. As a team we are leading the league by hitting .285. And leading our team is none other than Matthew Wilson who is amazingly hitting .374 with 11 homeruns. Our newly acquired right fielder Mark Smith is hitting .325 with six homers. I really hope we continue to play like this through the rest of the season. Lastly, the amateur draft is tomorrow. I will once again give a recap of what went on. |

6/2/2014 Tampa Bay selects CF Leon Rodriguez (18) from Moyer HS in Chicago. He hit .624 with 22 homers his senior year of high school. He has great power for his age and lightning fast speed. The Rays hope he will be a future 30/30 player. Detroit selects 2B Fred “Mr. Miracle” Heller from Jackson Hole HS in Florida. Heller earned his nickname by hitting 7 game winning homeruns in his three-year varsity career. His ceiling is probably higher than anyone else in this draft because of his 6’4 230lbs frame. Baltimore selects CF Francis Tamez (18) from Venezuela. He has good speed, good power and good discipline at the plate. He probably won’t be a star, but he’ll probably be an everyday player in the future. MIL selects 3B Francis Choe (19) from Tempe JC in Arizona. Choe already has above average major league power. This past season he hit 23 homeruns in 42 games as a sophomore in college. Scouts love his classic left-handed stroke. CIN selects 1B Steve Devine (21) from University of Miami as the fifth overall pick. Devine hit .420 with 18 homeruns this past season with Miami. He also committed just one error at first base while displaying range beyond his years. Devine should debut sometime within the next couple years. Lastly, Colorado picked P Nelson Kerry (21) from Auburn as the 16th overall pick. Scouts project him to be a future 2-3 pitcher in our organization. |

I have been really busy with my real life baseball team latley. We just got back from a week long road trip yesterday. Now we play a couple games at home, then we leave for another week on Thursday, so I will try to post some more in the down time.
BTW, there are a lot more installments that I haven't gotten around to posting. Anyway, I have a game today, so I have to take off. |

7/1/2014 I am a happy man right now. Our team is 7 games up in the National League West. We have a 50-31 record, tied for best in all of baseball. Our team is leading in hitting still and runs scored. My record is now 7-2, and my ERA is just 2.76. Our number three pitcher Felix Diaz is 9-1 with a 3.29 ERA. Those are by far the best numbers of his career. In fact, he had never won more than 6 games in a season before this year, and this year he gets elected to the all-star game. On the offensive side, Wilson is still leading by hitting .370 with 20 homers. He is the front-runner for the MVP award this year. Mark Smith is still hitting over .300 with 8 homers. Demiras is playing like he normally does, .275 with only four homeruns. I can recall thinking playing with Demiras in AA and thinking, “Wow, this guy could be a star in the big leagues right now.” It’s weird, now I look at him and wonder if he will ever be anything more than mediocre. Okay, I should give him a break, because he is only 22. I should mention something else before I forget. Tokuhei Anzai the first overall pick by Texas the year I got drafted finally made it out of A-Ball. He is in AA batting .295 with 13 homers. They are still very high on him, but I am willing to bet that he is going to be a bust. I mean, this is his 6th year playing in the minors. Even the second overall pick that year Herbert Strauss is starting in the big leagues. He’s only hitting .220 with 15 bombs, but at least he has gotten out of the minor leagues. Last thing, Diaz, Wilson, Smith and our number one hitter Betemit all got elected to this year’s all-star game. That’s the most we’ve had since I’ve been playing. I hope next year I can be on that list. Anyway, until next time… |

8/1/2014 The team is now 63-43, five games ahead of Arizona. We are on a four game losing streak to end the month, and I have to pitch today. I hope I can turn things around. I won my career high 9th game last week, to make my record 9-3. My ERA has jumped to 3.13 making it the first time over three all season. Coach Olerud has shown concern with my pitching this season because my ERA and WHIP have gotten worse month by month since the beginning of the season. He doesn’t want me to be one of those pitchers that always comes out hot and fizzles down the stretch. He said, “You won’t do any good to the club if this trend continues.” Well, I hope I can reverse my ERA throughout these final two months. Anyway, that’s it for right now. I have to go out and pitch today. Wish me luck. Update: I got knocked around badly today. I only last 1.1 innings before being pulled. Luckily my team came back and we won 11-9. |

9/1/2014 Our teams’ magic number is down to 21. We are 79-54, 9 games ahead of Arizona with just a month to go. It’s unreal to think that this team has a shot at the World Series this year, because we struggled to .500 last year. Wilson is playing incredible this year. If the season ended today he would win the Triple Crown. He’s batting .378 with 33 homers and 102 RBI’s. He should be the MVP winner this year. No one else is really even close to him right now. I am 10-3 now with a 3.25 ERA. I went 1-0 in August with a 3.73 ERA. I can’t believe I that half of my wins this season came in May. I hope to finish this season strong. I would like at least 13 in 2014, but it might be hard. I have to miss a start because of an inflamed elbow ligament, but I should be all right soon though. Other news around the league; Angel Guzman is at it again. This year he is 20-2 with a 1.58 ERA. Remember a couple years ago when he went 21-1? He is just an amazing pitcher, and probably a future Hall of Famer. That’s it for now. It’s time to go win a pennant. |

10/5/2014 All right, we won our division. The bad thing about it is that we have to play New York (N) in the first round. They were 98-64 this year and are widely considered the best team in the league. We slumped to finish the season and we ended at 91-72. Coach Olerud said he would rather go into the playoffs cold than hot. I hope we can take them in this five game series. My September was my worst month of the year. I was 1-3, so my season record was just 11-6. My ERA was 3.56, which is half a point lower than the league average. I hope I can get hot in the playoffs. Wilson ended up not winning the Triple Crown. He hit .369 (1st) with 37 homers (3rd), and 115 RBI’s (2nd). He is still going to win the MVP award. It would have been neat if he won the Triple Crown though. Lastly, I get the start the first game of the series. I am going up against 21 game winner Mark Paniagua. |
