OOTP 11's auto-save feature
Hi all,
I'm just wondering how many of you know about the auto-save feature in OOTP 11? Besides making a manual backup of your whole league folder, you can also get a much quicker and more frequent backup by changing the settings for auto-saving. Auto-save does not backup anything but the league (dat) files. No history files or mods are backed up, for example. It's still very useful to know about however. Since I periodically get people in tech support who for various reasons lost a league, I thought I'd post this here in the hope that a few people might see this and maybe it will save them from losing a lot of their work. So in case you don't know about auto-save, here's a little excerpt from a Knowledge Base article in tech support: In case you want to restore from a backup, but didn't make one manually, here's how to do so: There is a sub-folder in your league folder called "auto-save". It will also contain a backup of all the league files (only the dat files - these are the only files that get corrupted anyways, so that's enough). The default for the auto-save feature is to backup once per year. If you didn't change this, this backup will be current only to Jan. 1st of the year you're playing. In the future, you might consider making the game auto-save more often. The down side is you have to wait for this, but it shouldn't take very long. It's only the full backups that take a long time. If you're interested, here's how to change this setting: 1) Go to the "OOTP" menu. 2) Choose "Game Setup". 3) On the right side you'll see the Auto-Save dropdown list. I've got mine set to once per week and I make full backups of my favorite league twice per season. In fact, I have backups of all my backups (not just for OOTP, but for everything that matters) in case my backup drive fails and my league becomes corrupt on my main drive. Yeah, I'm a little paranoid.

I am sorry to "hijack" this thread but I have a Q about the game's own auto save with respect to exiting the game.
Every time you exit the game it saves. HAs 11 added a way that you can exit W/o saving? Example and why I am asking. In a large online league we have had a large issue with a file crash/corruption. We have found a clean file but it is about 8 months (in game) old. It's from the MIDDLE of the championship sims. This league has 7 sub leagues that I need them to all come out to the champions that actually happened. What I need is a quick and easy way to rewind the file to when I loaded so I can just go day by day until I get the right wins after the championships. Right now I have to copy the file and keep deleting the whole thing every time to start over from the other save. I bascially takes FOREVER. Is there an easier way to do this with 11? AnyHelp would be aprec. Thanks Doc |

For now you can just do as GEP suggested and press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to kill the game.

I'm curious how this could happen since killing the game should just cause the league files to be left alone. In other words, it won't know anything happened since you last saved the game, so I don't see how your pitchers could be affected?

And it's happened since at least OOTP8. I wouldn't know before then as OOTP8 was my first version

I'm afraid I'm too much of a skeptic to trust so I'll have to test this out for myself. It makes no sense to me how this could happen. If someone could explain how it could happen and it seemed reasonable, then I could believe it.
