Player Of The Week

How come only hitters win player of the week. I have a pitcher who I think is more deserving than the hitter that won it. The player that won was a catcher who went 11 for 23 with 3 HR and 10 RBI. While that's pretty good I think my pitcher Dezgado is more deserving. He had two starts in the week and while neither were shutouts, he only missed because of luck. The first game there were fielding mistakes costing him 2 runs. However he stuck it out for 10 innings and netted the win. The next game was a close contest vs our rival team. This time no errors befell him, but he still didn't get his shutout as his 10 shutout innings weren't enough as we scored no runs too. Now in one week he's pitched 20 Innings, and gave up no earned runs. While his strikeouts are low (10) (Groundball specialist ftw), he still not only gave up no earned runs in both starts but pitched longer than most pitchers of the time do. Should that be worth something?

I have had a pitcher win player of the week before, but it is rare. A pitcher would, I assume, have to make two starts that week and do very well in both of them to even be considered. All a hitter has to do is get on a roll for two or three games.

I've been updating the PEBA homepage with four PEBA/LRS Players of the Week for six full seasons. Never once has a pitcher been granted the award. I can say this with complete certainty since my template for displaying Players of the Week would break if a pitcher won the award.

I agree that it would be nice if pitchers were eligible to win Player of the Week awards. Maybe we'll see that happen in OOTP 12.

They are eligible to win it. It is rare and I am always surprised when it happens.

In one of my leagues in OOTPX, I had it happen three weeks in a row. Then if I remember right it didnt happen for over two more seasons.

They are eligible. I am in my third season of my favorite league (play out every single game.) I know I have seen a pitcher win it at least 3 or 4 times in those three seasons. The week I just finished, had a pitcher win it. Had two shutouts, with 21 Ks.

Also, the hitting happened to be pretty poor that week, on average.

In my league its 1959 and the league is dominated by great pitching thanks to my modifiers and low team count. As long as a pitcher gives up 0 or 1 runs in two starts combined, he'll win the PoW. I have a pitcher win the PoW about once every year on average.
