facegen/photo issues list

Hey everyone,

This is Gary from tech support. I'm scheduled to chat with Andreas tomorrow and I'd like to provide him with a list of the various facegen/photo issues. So I'll come back here and will edit this post with the different issues that you can let me know of. Please describe the problems in detail.

I've previously seen plenty of confirmation for #'s 1,2,3 & 6. So can anyone confirm #'s 4 and 5 (besides the ones who posted these in this thread)?

Here are the issues I know of so far:
1) Multiple players show up with the same photo or facegen.
2) Logos are showing up instead of images.
3) "baseball cards" is the only menu item on the picture menu.
4) Players going to the default blue and white jerseys and caps, instead of the custom ones
5) Pictures (jpg) of players change to the Photofit facegens on occasion
6) Baseball cards for real players show facegen photo instead of real photos.

Although it's technically not a facegen/photo issue, I'll also be asking about getting a fix so that baseball cards can be generated by GM's other than just the commissioner.

Yes. I've had this happen with Fictional Facegen photos as well.

My main problem was #1 and it was with facegen pictures. At times, every player in the league had the same photo. I was usually in commissioner mode when it happened but switching out of commissioner mode did not always solve the problem. I uninstalled .18 and went back to .8, then loaded a saved version from pre-.18 and have not had any problems since, but I am still using .8. I had the logo issue, too, but not as widespread as #1. Thanks for working on this.

First off thank you.

The majority of my players went to the default blue and white jerseys and caps, instead of the custom ones. The ones that kept their uniforms and faces were players that I had uploaded their photos to a website to post on the dynasty thread. Most of the rest, if not the rest, went to the default unis. When I (force) updated the players photos, nothing changed, neither from the league setup, or the team menus.

The coaches seemed unaffected, and still wore the correct uniforms.

I didn't notice all my players looking the same, but when I clicked on "same picture" in the player menu it generated a new picture, though it was in the correct uniform. In other words a guy with a mustache and pointy chin would have a generic uni, I'd click same picture and he'd be clean shaven with a broad chin but the right uniform on. I was not familiar enough with my players yet, (new league) to know if the player reverted to his original image when I clicked same picture, or got a face lift.

I tried to provide some extra details in case any of them prove helpful.

I started seeing this problem of facegens "sticking" when I go from one player to another. AFAIK, this only happened when I looked at the Editor for the first player then immediately went to the Profile of another player who has a facegen picture. The game apparently lost track of the fact that I am now looking at a different player.

I also ran a couple of tests in which I wiped out the player_XXXX files and rebooted the league (but not OOTP), and got some very strange results: e.g., a facegen picture appearing without any player_XXXX file having been created. However, if I reboot OOTP, the pictures start to appear correctly -- until I go to the Editor of one of them.

That makes me think that the cache system Andreas created in a recent patch, to speed up the display of pictures, isn't working quite right. The cache probably isn't getting cleared properly or something, but I think that is where this "stickiness" is happening.

Did this behavior start before or after the latest patches - the ones of the form 11.2.xx?

I think I might have heard of this once before, but it would be nice to know if someone else has had this happen too. Have you heard anyone else report this behavior?

I have had pictures (jpg) of players change to the Photofit facegens on occasion. I've noticed lately that it doesnt seem to happen as much as it did for awhile, but it does still happen. I've never been able to figure out a pattern as to what causes this happen.

One other thing I have noticed in a historical league. When rookies are imported it copies the jpg's to the html/images folder and leaves them there. I could be wrong but I thought they were supposed to get deleted after the player.xxx file was created.

After I posted, I realized that my theory about the cache would only make sense if it affected any type of picture or photo (since it's basically mis-displaying the player_XXXX files). So, I tested again (Editor direct to another player Profile) and found that it does affected all types of pictures. So that would seem to support my theory.

I'm also wondering if the problem could be aggravated for in online leagues. Maybe uploading a file messes up the cache even more. Just a thought.

I started having problems after the 11.2.15 patch, then when the 11.2.18 patch came out, it appeared that my facegen problems were fixed. However, when my season was over, I noticed that players who were traded to other teams sometimes didn't switch to the new teams hats and jerseys. Also, when I tried to change my teams uniforms to a new one, and clicked on "Update all players" only about half my team updated to the new uniforms.

Then I noticed, that all these players who failed to update also had the options in that players picture menu (Same Picture, New Picture, Give facial hair, etc) stopped working. If I clicked on "Same Picture" to try to manually update their picture with new uniforms, his face would completely change, even to different races. If I clicked "New Picture", it would do the same. Assigning facial hair and change color didn't work at all.

Seems to me Andreas should try to get the facegen and photo settings to the way they were when the game was first released, as there were no problems with those features before 11.2.15 came out. I can't remember why he changed it in the first place, but it seems to me getting the features back like they were on day one of release would be the safe and surest goal to thrive for. At least everything worked then.

To answer you question old timer, this happened a few days ago (Sunday?). I played one game of Spring Training when it happened. This was using the most recent patch (18).

To answer a couple of other things that you didn't ask but may help. This league is in commissioner mode and is a solo league, not an online league.

A number of us thought maybe this had something to do with playing in commissioner mode, but I was having my problems despite not playing in commissioner mode. I've seen a few others who also don't play in commissioner mode have similar problems.

We will very likely have a new build for the beta testers today and we'll release it ASAP. But we need to test it first so it might need a few days.

Has this photo issue been solved yet?
I have just upgraded to newest version. Before Dec 31, all photos were fine. I looked/maybe edited Aaron Hill,(so his was the last photo i saw). I rolled over Jan 1, and all photos are now of Aaron.
I was in commish mode.
