More Damaging: Favre or James
With Farve announcing his retirement, IMO this does to Minnesota what Lebron did to Cleveland. The question is which move is more damaging?
Lebron leaving crushed the entire city of Cleveland. Favre retiring may have crushed the Vikings season. Many argue that Lebron was selfish in his decision to milk his signing with Miami on ESPN and how it hurt loyal fans. Shouldn't the same be said for Favre who waited until right before preseason to make his announcement? leaving the Vikings with literally no time to find an adaquete replacement. |

And how is Favre's behavior any different than the previous two off-season? Really, if I were the Vikings, I'd have been kind of expecting this.

Lebron's decision was expected too, does that make it any less painful for the team involved?

Sure, Lebron's thing was expected, but Cleveland had such a profound attachment to Lebron. I doubt that Minnesota had a similar attachment to Favre. I think it would make more sense to compare James's decision to Favre's actions after his first retirement.

Well, Favre certainly held the Vikes over a barrel. And it is certainly rude to wait until training camp to retire. But I doubt they would have done anything different - they were either going with Favre or the backups they have. At least he didn't wait until the end of training camp. Now the other guys can at least get reps.
LeBron was native to the area, was a hometown hero, then had a one hour ESPN live special to give his hometown the finger. Not to mention the fact that the Cavs went from NBA champ contender to 35 win team in the process. I would say Favre leaving the Packers to try to go to the Bears or Vikes is more akin to the LeBron situation, though the Packers have a little more culpability than the Cavs. |

Guess they know how the Packers and Jets feel now.
And there needs to be a "yes" option.

The whole problem with these scenarios isn't so much the individual as it is the media promoting it like there's no tomorrow. So Brett Favre retired and unretired. Whoopee dooo, like he's the first and last person to ever do that. Funny how last year while the Vikings waited until the last possible second for Brett to decide, they had a backup plan. Now this year they don't and it's Favre's fault? Too bad Vikings - get your front office in order and start making smart decisions for the future instead of waiting around for someone to decide if they're going to play or not. You made your bed, now lay in it. |

Im a Vikings fan and dont feel betrayed at all. In fact it doesnt even seem in the same ballpark.
1. He will play this year. 2. He is old and its not as if he chose another team 3. The Vikings had more than enough chances to add another QB After seeing the beating Favre took in the playoff game against the Saints I think any reasonable Viking fan would understand whatever decision he makes. Well, Favre will unretire in about a couple of weeks.
But, assuming that doesnt happen the Favre one. At least Cleveland gets an offseason to sort of adjust their roster.

Well, yeah, Favre has been a selfish ego-maniac for 3 training camps now.

McNabb maybe. I believe I'd go with Jackson over Campbell.

Show me where he said he was retiring, please. First I heard from him on the matter was to say (as he's said all along) that if he were healthy, he'd play. He's had this appt with the doctor for quite some time to evaluate his ankle.
