Saving the game?

When I try to load a saved game, I notice that it is at a later point from my actual manual save - so is the game autosaving? How do I get the game to load from when I actually manually saved?

The game autosaves upon exit, so reloading puts you precisely where you stopped, not where you last did a manual save.

The only way to 'go back' to an earlier point would be to do a backup, and then load the backup.
