Why do some guys get automatically released after clearing waivers and being DFA??

Hey guys.

My 1st post here. I searched real quick, so hopefully this hasn't been discussed already.

But we've come across a bit of a problem in one of our leagues.

It seems that when a player is waived and designated for assignment, then he clears waivers, he is sometimes automatically released into the Free Agent pool.

We usually sim 7 days at a time. Sometimes the guy clears waivers and stays with the organization. We just can't determine if it's just an AI thing with the AI determining whether or not to release a guy on its own.

But it's creating a few headaches with big contract guys being released when some owners really don't want to release a guy with a contract like that.

Any ideas for a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Obviously, it would happen if the guy refused to go to the minors. Maybe your commissioner should sim day-by-day?

I'm fairly new to this, so bare with me, lol.

But why would they "obviously" be released. If I waive/DFA and they clear and the refuse to go to the minors, shouldn't I have the option to release or decide what I want to do?

I can't find anywhere in the manual where it says the AI would choose to release a guy.

Again, maybe I'm understanding it wrong, that's why I am looking for help.

I appreciate the reply.

I'm guessing here, but one thing could be that his number of days to be DFA expired and so he was released after not having anything done to him. Again, just a guess. You might want to make the amount of days a guy is DFA as a multiple of 7 days, so the guys can decide what to do with him. That might work. Interesting question though.

Yep I definitely think the time period for DFA should be extended to whatever the sim is. For example if your sims run 7 days, your DFA period should be 8 days or so just to be safe.

Also, I hate to even imagine it, but if your settings allow minor/major league signings and releases, that may be the culprit as well. You'd have to investigate that on a team by team basis though.
