 Coming up Rosen Bangers make third baseman top choice in draft  MILWAUKEE -- This is their fourth draft, and - with the Boston Riders having become the first expansion team to win a division crown - the expansion excuse is leaving the barn. The Milwaukee Bangers, three-time triple-digit losers, hope they got this one right. After reports came out they were growing increasingly fond of Jackie Robinson, GM Alfredo Moreno ultimately went with third sacker Al Rosen, who projects as a middle of the order presence. Projections, of course, have been tricky for the Bangers. They drafted Smokey Joe Williams with their first ever pick. He's gone 17-32 with a 4.64 ERA over three seasons. Ed Walsh was taken first overall the next season, and went 5-20 with a 5.85 ERA in a season and a half before being traded to Charlotte this season - for whom he went 4-4 with a 3.38 ERA. Last year, they took John Montefusco with the first pick overall, again. He went 10-18 with a 4.39 ERA. But given that he started 1-7, there's promise there. "This team has improved each season," Rosen said. "Hopefully, I can contribute and accelerate the process a bit." With Joe Crede (.248-24-77) a superior defender, the Rosen choice surprised many. Dan Uggla (.222-17-69) has disappointed and, eligible for free agency is unlikely to be re-signed. Surely he could have been replaced by Robinson, who ultimately went second to the Las Vegas Bosses. "We have plans," Moreno said, seemingly hinting at free agency, where they tried to spend last year and simply couldn't coerce big names like Joe Mauer and Dan Brouthers to come. The loss of Bill Byrd is a big one for the Heroes, and a great pickup for the Ringers, who also gain ground with the signing of sparkplug Rafael Furcal. The bats the Heroes brought in will have to offset a pitching staff that continues to take steps backward. Charlotte's poor offense should improve if Mike Donlin can return to form a year removed from his leg injury that cost him a season. Louisville inexplicably stands pat. But the biggest pickup could be defending division champ Boston's acquisition of Bob Horner, who two seasons ago appeared on his way to becoming an offensive force in this league. His pickup lets the Riders move Miguel Cabrera into the outfield, strengthening the lineup in two spots. |

After getting hurt in 2014, 2015 was an up and down season for the iconic Rube Waddell. If he can return to form, the Brigade could make a run. |

Ooh, Milwaukee gave up on Walsh way too early, they will regret that deal, then they went and left a possible 5 tool threat on the draft board(Jackie) in favor of a nice player who is most likely a few years away from reaching his potential.

Orlando said goodbye to Nap Lajoie after four years. The second baseman, who has never quite lived up to his potential, will also join the Knights. Orlando balked at Jonathan Papelbon's contract demands. He posted 10 saves in 13 games with a 1.35 ERA last season after coming back from elbow surgery that cut short his 2014 campaign. He ultimately signed with Los Angeles. The moves that could be interesting are St. Louis', though they have a long way to go to contend. |

Despite a career-low .237 average, Pujols still hit 25 homers and drove in 101 runs. While Arizona hopes Lip Pike can be rejuvenated by escaping the nightmare of Las Vegas and joining a contender, he's 37 and it may be too much to ask of him. Vegas just seemed to want to turn the club over, and after 7 consecutive losing seasons it's easy to understand why. Seeing Mike Donlin and Benjamin Boyd gone from Los Angeles will be strange, but the Idols grabbed a bonafide closer in Papelbon and now seem poised to at least let prospect Eddie Murray join a regular platoon if nothing else. San Antonio took a beating in free agency, losing McGinnity, Jones and Furcal, and could take a dramatic step backward this season. They've done nothing to improve the Southern League's worst offense, and losing their sparkplug in Furcal could prove devastating. If the Scorpions mature, they could make a run at the division. |

 Ramirez Big Deal in Indianapolis: Hits for CycleTuesday, April 5th, 2016: Indianapolis shortstop Hanley Ramirez became a free agent at the end of last season. While there was speculation the Engines would let him go, the two sides were able to work out a three-year deal. At least for a day, it seemed worth it. Ramirez had a stellar day today at Sounders Ballpark. His 4-hit day included a cycle and 2 runs batted in and was instrumental in the Engines 6-3 victory over the Milwaukee Bangers. Ramirez hit a solo-shot off John Montefusco in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and hit an RBI double in the 6th.  Arizona's Leonard Picks Up Where He Left OffWednesday, April 6th, 2016: Dutch Leonard was on his way to a remarkable season last year. He was 13-2 with a 1.38 ERA when his season was ended by a torn elbow ligament. That he's back this soon is amazing. That he's back this well is stunning. Leonard had an impressive outing today. He hurled the Arizona Sandmen to a 2-0 shutout victory over the San Antonio Sheriffs, yielding 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. "He threw strikes and he was always around the plate," the San Antonio skipper said. "The ball was doing everything he wanted it to do. We hit some balls hard, but they were all right at the fielders."  Clarkson Bewilders Bosses in ShutoutThursday, April 7th, 2016: John Clarkson went the distance at MGM Field today. The Los Angeles hurler yielded 3 hits, walked 1 and had 6 strikeouts in the Idols 8-0 triumph over the Las Vegas Bosses.  Ringers Chill Jones's Hot StreakFriday, April 8th, 2016: It was the best of both worlds for the Philadelphia Ringers. They beat the Wichita Brigade 3-0 and ended Cleon Jones's 23-game hitting streak, dating back to last season. The 24-year-old Wichita center fielder failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats. "Nothing personal against Cleon, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Ringers skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing." When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Jones frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game." It will get you in the record books, but you won't necessarily win the ballgame." The 22-year-old player got into the record book today with a spectacular 5 for 5 game against the Chicago Hitmen. The skipper of the Riders spoke glowingly of Hernandez, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. Hit Parade: Bostock Pops 5 HitsSunday, April 10th, 2016: It was a magical day at the plate for the Ringers Lyman Bostock. The 26-year-old center fielder helped lift Philadelphia to a 10-7 win over the Wichita Brigade today at Battalion Ballpark. Bostock smacked 5 hits in 5 at-bats to spark his club to victory. Bostock singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, singled in the 5th and singled in the 8th. This season Bostock has delivered 8 hits in 19 at-bats for a .421 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .421 clip and his totals also include 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. PLAYER OF THE WEEK NORTHERN LEAGUE  Hardy Richardson, BostonMonday, April 11th, 2016: At the age of 30, Hardy Richardson might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Boston second baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .429 batting average. For his efforts Richardson collected the Northern League Player of the Week Award. He racked up 6 hits in 14 at-bats, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs last week in 4 games. SOUTHERN LEAGUE  Ginger Beaumont, Oklahoma CityMonday, April 11th, 2016: Ginger Beaumont did nothing to hurt his value as an upcoming free agent last week, making contact with the ball at every opportunity and reeling in the Southern League Player of the Week Award. The center fielder hit .625 for the Scorpions, recording 10 hits in 16 at-bats, 1 home run, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Mike Lamb Out for 4-5 MonthsWednesday, April 13th, 2016: Dealing with injuries is part of the game and now Mike Lamb of the Scorpions knows this firsthand. He was injured against the Arizona Sandmen while colliding with a player at a base. Diagnosed as a fractured ankle, the Oklahoma City first baseman is expected to miss 4-5 months. Lamb was a little upset, but understands it comes with the territory. "Baseball can be a contact sport. You try to be careful, but no matter how careful you are, injuries happen." Candelaria Shuts out RidersThursday, April 14th, 2016: "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Cougars manager told reporters after today's game. The Riders ran into a buzzsaw as John Candelaria cut them down to size 7-0 with a 5-hit shutout. His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one." In the complete game whitewash the Charlotte hurler doled out 4 walks and registered 2 strikeouts. In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "John goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. April 25-May 1, 2016 APRIL AWARDS  New York's Kennedy Collects April Batting HonorSunday, May 1st, 2016: Terry Kennedy of the New York Heroes spoke softly and carried a big stick in April and was justifiably proclaimed the Northern League Batter of the Month. The Heroes catcher rapped out a .427 batting average with 38 hits in 89 at-bats, drove in 25, scored 14 runs and chalked up a .440 on-base percentage.
 Fain Named NL Rookie Of the MonthSunday, May 1st, 2016: Ferris Fain had a very good April and today was presented the Northern League Rookie of the Month trophy. Last month the 27-year-old Boston first baseman played in 23 games and hit .370 with 6 doubles, 1 triple and no home runs. Fain also scored 19 times and drove in 5 runs.   SL Best Hitter Award to St. Louis's Tris SpeakerSunday, May 1st, 2016: When Tris Speaker stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Southern League Batter of the Month award. Back with a vengeance! After a disappointing season last year(for them) the New York Heroes loaded up during the offseason and came out firing in 2016, ending April with an unbelievable 18-6 record, all I can say is look out Northern League!!!

New York's Morgan Injured During RehabMonday, May 2nd, 2016: New York second baseman Joe Morgan reportedly suffered a setback this week while rehabilitating a fractured foot. Preliminary tests showed the injury has gotten worse and would need more time to be completely healed. An unidentified team official said it looked like it would be at least 2-3 weeks before Morgan would be able to return to the active roster. Morgan will see a specialist tomorrow. This year Morgan has hit 1 home run and posted a .346 batting average.  20 Games in a Row for AshburnMonday, May 2nd, 2016: The Racers' 22-year-old rookie center fielder Richie Ashburn has been on a tear for several weeks and his hitting streak is getting longer. The streak is now at 20 games after he went 1-4 as Louisville got the best of Charlotte 7-2 today at Cougar Field. Ashburn singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, walked in the 7th and struck out in the 8th. This year Ashburn has socked 31 hits in 93 at-bats for a .333 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .415 pace and his totals also include 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
 Williams Whips SacramentoMonday, May 2nd, 2016: In a very sharp performance at Pathfinders Ballpark Smokey Joe Williams of the Milwaukee Bangers blanked the Sacramento Stingers 4-0. He permitted 3 hits and finished with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in the Bangers victory. This season Williams has compiled a 2-3 record with a 4.98 ERA.  Hitmen's Lemaster Tosses MasterpieceSaturday, May 7th, 2016: The Ringers can take comfort in knowing that they will not have to face Denny Lemaster again for a while. The 27-year-old hurler pitched a 3-hit shutout to help the Chicago Hitmen beat Philadelphia 8-0. In the process, Lemaster struck out 4 and walked 1. Thus far this season, Lemaster has tossed 37.1 innings in 5 starts, fanned 21 batters, walked 10 and put up a 4.58 ERA with 1 win and 3 losses.  Stone Hits in 20 Straight GamesSaturday, May 7th, 2016: George Stone's consecutive-game hitting streak has now climbed to 20 games. The Wichita left fielder smacked 1 hit against Sacramento in today's game at Pathfinders Ballpark to extend it, but he has mixed emotions about it. After losing to the Sacramento Stingers, Stone told reporters, "I feel good about the streak, but don't feel good when we lose." Stone flied out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th and singled in the 8th. Stone is batting at a .413 pace this season, picking up 50 hits in 121 at-bats with 2 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.  Rudolph Sidelined for 8 WeeksSaturday, May 7th, 2016: Dick Rudolph at first refused to leave today's Orlando-New Orleans game after he suffered a sprained ankle while throwing a pitch. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I want to be on the field," the feisty New Orleans starting pitcher said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Rudolph out of action for 8 weeks. In the current season in 6 starts, Dick Rudolph has a record of 2-2 with 16 strikeouts in 36 innings and a 4.50 ERA.  Danny Darwin Done For SeasonSunday, May 8th, 2016: The New York Heroes were dealt a severe blow when Danny Darwin was placed on the disabled list, expected to miss the rest of the year and into next season with a torn elbow injury. He will undergo surgery later this week. This year Darwin has posted a record of 2 wins and 2 losses with a 3.68 ERA. He has appeared in 9 games and struck out 17 in 36.2 innings.  Harris Fires Shutout in Racers VictorySunday, May 8th, 2016: Mickey Harris of the Louisville Racers was masterful today, pitching a 2-hit 13-0 shutout against the New York Heroes and giving his bullpen a rest by going the distance. According to his manager, "He had command of every ball and every pitch... great location, too." Harris had 8 strikeouts and issued no walks in an impressive outing. Checking out his stats for the season, Harris has registered 5 wins and 1 loss in 7 starts, 1.99 ERA and struck out 40 batters in 54.1 innings. Ted Kluszewski Sidelined for 6 WeeksSunday, May 8th, 2016: Sacramento fans will be disappointed to learn that Ted Kluszewski suffered a torn abdominal muscle. After the doctor informed the Sacramento Stingers manager that Kluszewski was expected to miss 6 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the first baseman could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper. This year Kluszewski has hit at a .326 clip with 31 hits, 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and 15 runs scored. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK  Roger Connor, ChicagoMonday, May 9th, 2016: The 29-year-old first baseman compiled a .500 average (15-30) with no home runs, 5 RBIs and 6 runs scored. For the season, Connor is hitting at a .328 clip with 5 home runs, 29 RBIs and has scored 21 runs. He has 40 hits, 16 walks and a .406 on-base percentage.  Willie Upshaw, OrlandoMonday, May 9th, 2016: Upshaw hit .517 while collecting 15 hits in 29 at-bats, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs. For the year Upshaw has hit at a .326 clip with 12 RBIs, 3 home runs and 12 runs scored.

It is dawning on me that I have 17 more draft classes planned and want to see that last draft class play to the end...so I have 30 more years at least to sim. If I keep going like this that's going to take years (consider this has been going for a year and a half and I'm in the 8th season). So I think I'm going to change the pace a bit...sim to the All-Star Break and give team reports...then sim to Sept. 1 and give team reports, then do the pennant races day by day like I've done.
