Roster Problems
Being new to OOTP, I took the advice of someone (sorry, can't remember who), who suggested starting a trial game to familiarize myself with the various aspects of the game before diving into how I really wanted to play the game.
I'm sure glad I took this advice, because while working on the Lineup Tab page, where the team's lineups versus RHP and LHP is located on the bottom half of the screen, and the team's Roster is located on the top half of the screen, the Roster has no players' names at all. This issue isn't unique to just the team I was working on. None of the teams in the league have players' names in their respective Roster space, located on the Lineup Tab. Even though I had granted myself Commissioner privileges for the team I was working on, I can't figure out how to populate the Roster section of the Lineup page after 5-6 hours of trying. I don't know if it has anything to do with this Roster issue, but after I accidently hit the "Finish Today" button in a fit of confusion, the game advanced itself to Opening Day, so I went ahead and manually played out the first game to see how the game reacted. In doing so, I noticed that when I switched from the game screen to the Substitution screen, there were no players on what I think was the Substitution (Team) roster. I couldn't even summon a relief pitcher. So, my question is: how do I populate the Roster half of the Lineup screen with the team's players' names? Is it possible that this is a glitch that a patch was supposed to correct? The reason I ask this question is because I'm using a boxed version of OOTP 11, and I obtained a patch from Viva, but Viva doesn't label its patches (i.e., patch 11.0.3, patch 11.1.8), so I have no idea what their patch corrects and what it doesn't correct. I apologize for the long winded post, but I wanted whoever answered this to have enough pertinent info. I'd appreciate anyone's help, because my trial game seems to be useless now. |

Sad that you are having so much difficulty with this, but there is a point about your problem that isn't perfectly clear:
Are the teams actually playing the game with the players they have? Do you see that the teams actually do have players? If the answer is yes, then mostly likely the problem you are having is that somehow you've "customized" the view settings in a way that causes all the current players to disappear (that is, they don't meet the customized sorting criteria). I can imagine ways in which that could occur. When you look at the lineup tab, at the base of the roster section, there is a line of text that describes how the view has been sorted. Check that out. |

Steve:
Thanks for your help. First, while I was manually playing my game, which had real, historical players, other teams, scheduled to play that same date, were playing in the background. I think each of those teams were also playing with their real, historical players inasmuch as my game was (I'm not really familiar with the names of players in 1920, but the one name I recognized in my game was Casey Stengal). In the lineup tab, at the base of the roster section, I don't see any text that might describe how the view was sorted. Just above the lineup section, in the blank Roster space, are these terms in red color, which read from left to right, starting at the left margin: Batting Ratings View - Roster Aid - Position: All Batters - Scouting By: Chris Morgan - No Players Found. None of these terms is a link to anything. I don't think these terms are what you mean. I might add that the Roster Tab also has no players listed. It's blank. It also reflects the same terms, in red, in the same configuration as I described above for the Lineup screen. In fact, the only screen in which my team's player show up is the Transactions tab, where it reflects my 25-man roster and my reserve roster on the "Overview" button. Also on the Transaction tab, my players are listed on the "Disabled List" and the "Player Trade Status" whenever I push those respective buttons. |

Check the "Filter" button 2/3 of the way up the screen. It is in between "View" and "Position".
Click it so it opens and click "Clear Filter", see if that does it.

It Worked!!! I certainly appreciate you expertise and help. I've spent way too much time trying to figure out something I know very little about, but I did learn something. Again, thank-you very much. |
