I was of the opinion that some fan of the Oakland A's created "the wave". Hmmm

Anyway, Anelka got booted by Domenech. If I'm the head of the French Association (don't know their name), I would say, nevermind Nicolas you can stay, Raymond you can go. Either way it wont matter because they're not going to get through. At least he's managing his last game and about to take the meteoric fall from finals to out of the group stage

They've done brilliantly apart from that, starting right with the goal correctly ruled offside in the Mexico/South Africa match. Much, much better than the last World Cup or the European Championships, and lightyears better than your average Premier League or Serie A weekend.
Have to agree with mylons on this, we've had a couple of discusions over the season about officials and have to say the officials on the whole have surprised me specially the linesmen who've got a few offside decisions spot on.

Couple of points, I agree with Podolski that he could have done better, to me he hit it too close to the goalkeeper (Wigan Athletic goalkeeper ). England game, have to say not one player deserved to hold his head up THEY all played as bad as each other.

See Rooney as made his apology to the England fans, if were honest he was made to apologize. Have to say gone way down in my mind.

I always thought that the wave came from college sports.

Yes. Goal differential followed by goals for.

They're going to lose one, obviously, since they won't have a host nation there. I don't think I'd really like to see them lose another, though, especially if it would end up going to another European nation. It's not as if Slovakia's lighting the world on fire.

Well, any one of Russia, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Ireland or Croatia would be at least as deserving as most of these horrible African teams. Thats why I suggested a second round of qualifying independent of regions to help insure the better teams make it.

Imagine this.....England draws and Algeria wins. Possible, right? That would put Slovania and Algeria as the top two.

I thought Germany still played well despite losing Klose and being down a man for the majority of the match.

I think if Spain can actually score they'd be dangerous. Time of possession is not getting them any points.

If i remember correctly they called it like that because it was seen in one of Mexico World Cups, 1970 or 1986.

I think he is trying to say it may have been intentional. I am leaning towards no but I am not so sure. Can anyone find a replay of that call with the sound?

I can understand a bad call on a foul. Or even the misinterpretation of it's severity because a foul did in fact occur. What I can't understand is seeing a foul that did not exist.

You say that, but it's not as if the European teams that made it ahead of those teams are playing fabulously well.

Really, in terms of the African teams, the only one that has really looked bad so far is Cameroon. Nigeria looked good against Argentina and then was doing quite well against Greece before going down a man. Algeria humbled England. Ghana's in first place in their group. Even South Africa looked halfway decent in their first match (and I wouldn't be too surprised if they beat France and snuck into the knockout stages).

It wasnt intentional and he clearly didnt have an anti-US bias because of the early Dempsey incident and awarding Slo 4 yellows to just 1 for us. I absolutely believe that he got the call wrong. However, if I remember correctly, where he was standing for the FK, he was positioned between Edu and his run and the defender. He possibly could have believed that Edu fouled that defender. But he is about as incompetent an official at adjudicating FKs as Eric Gregg was at calling balls and strikes.

If Africa does lose one, it should go to another South American side. All five CONMEBOL teams are leading or tied for the lead in their group.

I'd assume CONMEBOL will get a sixth team in 2014, just because Brazil will be the host nation and won't be involved in qualification.

Amazingly, I am not one of the Australians whining about Kewell's red card. I am however, pi$$ed about the inconsistency. If Tim Cahills tackle against Germany was a red, why wasn't the Ayew tackle(Aus vs Ghana) the same?

FIFA issued a directive about tackles from behind didnt they?

The fifth this time was through playin against Costa Rica. There should be many more playin games IMO.

World Cup qualification takes forever already. Adding another round of playin matches would make it even worse.
