So, I have this idea for a sort of historical/modern/fictional hybrid league.
Here's the basic setting/backstory: In October of 1962, only two weeks after the 1962 World Series, the Cuban Missile Crisis escalates to the point of global-nuclear war. Many major cities in the U.S. are absolutely destroyed. Communications infrastructure is decimated. The economy is wrecked. As a result of this, Major League Baseball simply ceases to exist. It cannot overcome the physical and economic hurdles required to continue operations. It is a decades-long recovery for the United States. During this recovery period; while amateur, high school, and collegiate baseball still flourishes in the cities and towns across the country, no major nationwide Baseball league exists. In 2010 (or another year), that all changes when a collection of forward-looking owners from across the country decide to create the New American Baseball Collective (or another name). The league will honor Baseball's past. A past where Babe Ruth is still the All-Time home run leader, and Hank Aaron is a former up-and-comer whose career ended to soon. Barry Bonds...he never even played. At the inaugural draft, will Albert Pujols have already hung up his cleats? Will some other unknown (fictional) stud finally get his chance at baseball stardom.......you get the idea. If done right, and with a lot of help, I think that this idea (if it comes to fruition) could evolve into one of the premier OOTP leagues around. I'm nowhere near ready to pull the trigger on this. I would like to take a good amount of time to brainstorm about the ideas and fiction surrounding the league and have a good plan in place before we go live. The league would be, first-and-foremost, competitive and participation-based; and dedicated to expanding the story and the universe through article-writing. I am willing to be the commissioner, though I lack the experience. I would not GM a team and would be an impartial leader for the league to ensure fairness and that the league exists for a long, long time. So, would anyone be willing to work with me in getting this off of the ground? I envision this being a months-long process, but the more polished we are as we go live, the more likely it is that we can recruit and keep a great community of competitors for a long time to come. Please respond with feedback (positive or negative) and let me know what you think. |
