One pitch mode needs some help

Hi All,
I stopped mid-game to come write about this. I've always played in one pitch mode but a few things have always bothered me.

- My batter will often hit-and-run on a 1-2 or 0-2 pitch.

- My pitcher doesn't try pickoffs. this should be worked into the one pitch mode

- Stealing. The game becomes pitch-by-pitch when you try to steal, but I'm not sure how to fix this. I want something like: the runner tries to steal some time during the at bat, but not necessarily on the first pitch. It would be cool if you could refine this on each players strategy page. Something like: this player always runs on a 3-2 pitch.

and the one that got me to write this...

- My damned pitcher bunted on a 3-0 count. What?

Any opinions on this?

happy gaming,
Frank

This is why I play a hybrid game. If you set the button in the lower right corner so it reads "switch to one-pitch mode" you can play one pitch by hitting enter or spacebar but at the times I want to control things more I can use the number keys to bunt up to a certain count or take a pitch etc. doing it one pitch at a time. When pitching I can hold the runner on some counts and maybe not on others or throw to first etc. It doesn't take much longer to play out a game doing it this way and I get more control.

Since you're playing one-pitch, you have to hit throw over to a base to make him do so. Otherwise, it won't happen since you're simming the whole at-bat. There's no AI as to when a throw over will occur. Additionally, even if it did occur, if there was no out involved, it wouldn't show because of the nature of what one-pitch is supposed to do (show only the outcome of the at-bat). It's just like not showing all the failed hit-and-run attempts with foul balls, for instance.

Out of interest: do you ever look at the game log to see what happened on all the pitches that you didn't watch (because the only pitch you see in one-pitch mode is the pitch that occurs in conjunction with the defined event)? If you haven't been doing that, you might consider doing it in the future. There's some useful info there.

So do I. I started doing so because when I bunted in one-pitch mode the batter would continue to bunt with two strikes.

Yea, I guess I play a hybrid game now too, especially on steals and hit-and-run, and I guess I should start doing it on bunts too, but I don't want to start doing pickoff attempts and holding runners, that seems like it will slow things down considerably.

Like I said in my above post, I don't want to get too into this, because its a pitch-by-pitch feature. It seems like the game should handle this for me. The AI tries to pick off my runners and I only see it when there's an out, and I'm fine with that, but I wish my pitcher could do the same.
What I want is to be the manager, making managerial decisions. I don't want to be the pitcher. (yes, I know that some managers do call pick offs)

regards,
Frank

I should do this more. You're right.

I play in one-pitch mode, but it's a little bit like too much of a good thing. Your either in one-pitch mode or you're not. It would be nice if, in one-pitch mode, there was a random 'Pitch-by-Pitch' PBP, say, every 5 batters just to give a little bit of flavor to the one-pitch mode.
