The Jackson catch will go down like Endy Chavez's catch... just a baseball memory of something that could have been great.

As he was getting yelled at by Leyland, you know he was wishing he had a mulligan.

I doubt that there is a rule that prevents him from reversing his call...or asking for help in reversing his call.

Though, a call reversal would probably be just as controversial.

Not on that play. There was ZERO question about it.

This is all anyone thinks of when they hear the name Don Denkinger:

Same will be for Joyce with this call.

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. The only way you call him safe in that situation is if Donald is on his way back to first base when the ball hits the glove. I'd have a hard time if I was Donald accepting that as a hit. I know we all want to win but he was even surprised when he was called safe.

Count me in for replay. But let's leave the managers out of it. It should be pretty easy to add another umpire for each game that can just watch video. If the guys on the field called it obviously wrong (like in this case), just overrule them. Whatever the play (except for balls and strikes).

Did they at least call it an error on Cabrera for the bad throw? At least get the No-hitter on that?

It wasn't a bad throw, it was just 'late'.

I still say no to every play. You CAN'T overrule soooo many plays.

What about this play?

Runners on 2nd and 3rd. 1 out. Ball hit to deep right field. Right fielder goes back and makes the catch. Guy on 3rd tags and scores. Guy on 2nd tags and scores.

But wait...he trapped the ball in RF. It wasn't a catch.

You can't...in no way...overrule a play like that. Do you give the guy on 2nd and 3rd home? Do you give the batter 2nd?

Nope. You have to let it play as is.

I'm only for homerun replays. Everything else is left to human error, even things like this unfortunately.

I've seen that replay 10 times now, and that's an inexcusable piece of umpiring.

I'd go further....but yeah...probably not on this play.

Check swings...yes.
Hit batter...yes.
A ball called fair, that was actually foul...yes.
A ball called foul, that was actually fair...no.

You've got the right idea that you can't overturn something that would have resulted in action on the field.

I like the way baseball has human error. Check Swings can go in your favor sometimes and not others, I like how guys can make their way down to first because they fooled the umpire into thinking they got hit. I like when players cheat ON the field of play. Spit balls, stealing signs, pine tar, etc. Give me what you got.

Umpires already have to make the call as to how many bases a runner should advance on interference calls etc. It's also already possible for umpires on the field to have to make this type of call by overruling the umpire that first made the call. So this situation is already possible (though a bit unlikely that any other umpire had a good enough view of the trap to overrule the first umpire).

Really, I'd prefer the umpires to try to get it right, even if they have to do some estimating as to how many bases a runner should get. That's still much better than calling something an out that you know isn't.

Which would have applied in this case. Dave Valle did come up with a pretty good idea. You have a replay umpire in the booth and one ump (I say crew chief perhaps) has an earpiece. Something where they can just "change the call" ... perhaps setting up a system like the NFL with replay flags (though, on a final out, it's automatic booth review).

That's different. Interference results in a dead ball. Replay doesn't result in a dead ball. The play continues.

With that said...anybody else curious how we've had 3 perfect games within a 1 month period, and 4 within a year?
