Compensation Tags Disappearing After Draft
I just noticed that all of the tags for compensation are disappearing after the draft in my league, which I run in the offseason. This happens for pretty much every single free agent in the pool. Is anyone else experiencing this issue in an offseason draft?

If I had to guess this is because Markus (AFAIK) made it so that compensation picks wouldn't be given to free agents who were signed after the draft. For instance, if Pujols becomes a free agent in 2011 and no one signs him all offseason, St. Louis wouldn't get compensation picks if he was signed after the 2012 draft. The problem for you is that your draft is in the offseason, so it's wiping compensation picks mid-signing period. You might want to post a support ticket about this. The execution is a nice idea, but this is a case where the game's customizability makes it difficult to get right.

This is how it works in MLB. Teams are no longer eligible for draft pick compensation for their Type A free agents after the June Amateur Draft is held.

What about if a player is signed during the season, but before the draft? That just happened to me, and I didn't receive compensation. Is this correct?

I think you should still get compensated. Are you sure he was eligible?

If a compensation-eligible player is signed during the season but prior to the draft, compensation should be awarded. If you're 100% sure that you met this criteria and still failed to receive compensation, here's something to check on: Do you have another league in your universe that holds its draft between the day free agents file in your main league and the date of your main league's draft? If so, that would explain your problem. OOTP currently suffers from a bug where any draft within your baseball universe causes all free agents to lose their compensation status. The bug has recently been logged, so hopefully we'll see a fix for it in a future patch.

I prefer an off season draft too. I notice that for some reason the pre season starts Feb 1st and I think thats the day the comp tags are lost. Fix this please!!

OOTP should let you customize the length of the pre-season/spring training period. The choices should range from bewteen one to six weeks. (The default for MLB and MLB-like leagues should be five weeks.)

I totally agree. It would also allow some of these overlapping issues to work themselves out.
