Quickest you had a prospect in the big leagues?

Just drafted a 23 year old ss with 8 defense for ss and 10 for 3rd and 2nd base. Guy is sick defensively. This guy also can hit for average.

He spent 12 games and 48 at bats in single a. I had an injury to my 2nd baseman so I had to call him up from single a and he is batting .257 so far and playing great defense. I didn't know you could call them up after only 12 games. I mean its been less than a month since this guy was drafted.

Got him with the 4th pick.

I've never done that in OOTP, but my team in real life just had a guy (Mike Leake) skip the minors completely. I think it's been done only a dozen or so times in MLB history since the draft started. They actually sent the hat he wore in his debut to the HOF, so it must be rare.

I sent a guy straight to the majors after being drafted. Actually ended up being a HoF closer. I forget his stats right now though. He was racking up 50 saves a season with a sub 2.00 ERA each year after his first. In his first he put up 20 saves and I think a 3.50 ERA, so I wasn't sure, but he got good quick.

I've never brought a guy up the majors without him playing in the minors first. I usually want to see him kick butt in the minors a bit so I know for sure he's ready.

I have a reliever in my current league that came up a little less than a year after being drafted, but that is probably the fastest or close to it for me. I'm really careful with prospects and their development.

I've brought a few relievers straight to the bigs over the years. Some starters have made it by September if I'm desperate. Can't remember the last time I promoted a position prospect so quickly.

John Olerud is a significant example.

Here's one from my fictional league, but I didn't bring him up right away. Instead, I let him go to AAA after the draft to see how he does--I was convinced after only 17 games. In his first year (year 2015), the same year he was drafted, he played 59 games in the majors, backing up for a good defensive CF (but the guy was below average with the stick [sub .300wOBA]).

The rookie did good with the backup role, so the next year, I decided to give the starting role to him.

In his official rookie year (the following year, 2016), he played 160 games, hitting over .300, with 20 homeruns, 100+ runs, 200+ hits, and 25 stolen bases. Needless to say, he won the rookie of the year award. He also won 3 rookie of the month awards, the gold glove with a +46.2 ZR in center, and played in the all-star game.

He was 23 y/o when he was drafted 26th overall by the Padres from Central Michigan. 12 days later, he signed with the Padres--a $1,730,000 signing bonus and a 3 year contract worth $2,400,000.

No clue. He has since come down to earth in this sophomore year. Kinda hoping he'd heat up again, we need to catch the Dodgers.

Well those could always be inside the park homeruns or maybe he had an angel with him!

I had a starter that skipped the minors after the draft and did good, he had a 3 stars rating so it kinda made sense.

Also seen a couple of relievers that have skipped the minors.

I've had players called up the day they sign. In my current league, I drafted a Gwynn/Molitor/Biggio type lead off hitter first overall. He was a 31 overall 78 potential. The AI immediately called him up and suggested using him as a back RF against lefties. That part bugs me...a lot. I used him as an everyday player, even though he really wasn't my best option. He struggled initially, but is on pace to finish the season hitting .270 with 40 steals.

I drafted a stud reliever out of college. He was called up when one of my relievers went on the DL the following April. He rode the elevator to and from AAA for a couple of seasons before he has established himself as a top flight ML reliever.

Jim Abbott too. I believe Xavier Nady was too. But, he had one AB in late September after signing, and was sent down for next season, so that is true only in the technical sense.

I thought Tim Belcher also went straight to the majors.

Anyway, the best chances you'll see with players going straight to the majors will usually be relievers followed by starters. I would be shocked to see a position player make it immediately to the majors unless there were some rare circumstances.

Like most people have said, MRs going straight to majors is very common. I have not seen it much with Starters but it seems like my draft usually has about 4 SPs total and 254 MRs but that is another story.

Not sure when that was last updated but the rookie Mike Leake from ASU did it this year.
