Things I havent seen in PBP mode (one pitch)
No ground-rule doubles, very few guys getting thrown out stretching singles into doubles , doubles into triples, and triples into inside the park home-runs (never seen this), Runner on third getting thrown out on a ground ball with less than 2 outs. Strike out passed ball and batter safe at first, almost never see someone steal successfully on a pitchout.
I understand a lot of these are rare occurrences in real life baseball but they do happen. I've played 100 games so far in pbp mode and these just dont come up. |

So, you have played 100 games. How many games in an MLB season? 2430? And that's not including play-offs and spring training.
So you watched a combined total of about 4% of a regular season. Hardly a great percentage to be worrying about rare occurrences. |

You're claiming that in 100 real games you're not likely to see a guy on third thrown out at the plate?

100 games is a lot not to see someone get thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple or thrown out at home being on third with one out. Also, no run-downs, no being thrown out tagging up from second to third on a fly ball. It's not nickpicking if these things DO happen in baseball. It's not like I'm asking to see triple-plays (which I actually did see once) every three games...

I've only played 30 games so far in my season, and I've seen several ground-rule doubles, had a runner thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double, and had one of my outfielders throw a runner out at home, so it's definitely in there.
It's all random, so you'll eventually see some of these things happen. |

I play out every game and have since OOTP 7. That's over 1000 games and I have never had a ground rule double in one pitch mode. NEVER.

Ground rule doubles are relatively rare in MLB today though aren't they?
I've seen quite a few though. |

Two nights ago... bottom of the 9th, losing 6-5, leadoff hitter doubles and is thrown out trying to stretch it in into a triple. NOOO! Thrown out at 3rd. Had a little talk with my third base coach after the game.

Yeah, they are. It really depends on how the park is designed, etc. For example, Comerica Park (Detroit) seems to be tailor-made for a doubles-hitting team, and I've observed a number of them (G-R doubles) over the years there.

I'm 40+ games into my league. I've had several doubles thrown out at third, a ground-rule double with a guy on first and me needing a run, an inside-the-park homer (on opening day), a guy thrown out at the plate on a groundball in extra innings...
It's random and a small sample size. Every event is independent - the game doesn't say to itself, "We've had fewers homers than we should - start giving everyone more homers". |

I've been beaten this season by a last-of-the-ninth, two-run, inside the park homer and in a game yesterday the AI called for pitchouts on two successive pitches (never seen that before). Great game!

I tend to usually play games during the deadball era, so trying to stretch a triple into an inside the park home run happened somewhat back then. Doesnt really happen now. I agree.
Also, come to think of it , in PBP mode, you never do see a runner on second base get hung out to dry on a ground ball to third with less than 2 outs. He either stays at second or advances to third. That isn't really all that rare of an occurance IRL. Happens to the Mets a lot. Last edited by gentlemanofleisure; 05-13-2010 at 12:59 PM. |

Difference is, I play full pitch-by-pitch mode, not one-pitch. Don't think there's any difference in the engine, so should be same between the two modes. They (most) happen, but are suitably rare. |

I looked at an alamac from my 1909 season. Getting caught in a run-down DID happen. it happened twice.
Too infrequent, but it DOES happen in OOTP. |

As far as inside the park home-runs, look below, now you've seen it...
