Does this sound like a working idea?

OK, instead of starting in 1871, because I am going to play most of my games out and have some strategy with pitching, etc - and because my Tigers and the American League both came into being in 1901, the Deadball Era sounds like a good place to start.

Now, because I'm new to this game, will I have any problem adding the minor leagues around the 1930s and affiliating because I understand that the league expansions and relocations will happen on their own. I want to bring the farm system into play right along the time Mr. Rickey popularized it.

Not going to use recalc, no free agency until 1975, and hopefully - if the Giants make it in 04, no series in 04. Just going to keep the roster limit at 25 and 40 even though it fluctuated just because there's really no reason to constantly mess with it.

Does this all sound plausible?

Everything is doable.

When you get to the pre-season of 04, make sure you go into your league setup and disable play-offs if you don't want a WS. In 05 pre-season, don't forget to enable it again.

Well, I'd hoped to just not have the series if NYG made it, but I guess no series will have to do!

You should be able to add minor leagues after the fact. However, you'll want to make sure that the game doesn't fill them with fictional players. I have never done this myself, but I've read postings from people who made that mistake. I think it can be avoided, though, as long as your historical settings are set up correctly.

Now I'm unsure based on my other thread if they will appear naturally on their own. One of the other gents in the forum claimed that he started a game in 1871, and his minors had "appeared" without him adding them in 1873 or 1874... If this happens, I wonder if it only happens in the 1871 start, or if my 1901 game will develop a minor league system of its own at the proper time?

Thanks for your reply!

Why no fictional players?

I wouldn't want fictional players. I imagine it would be much easier to do with fictionals, as well.

Yeah, I got you. You want to play with all the dudes that were there and in it at the time.
