It's Official - People dislike the Red Sox more than the Yankees.
Most hated team? Not Yankees, report says - ESPN
I found this amusing. I have to say that I wouldn't think of the Indians as the most disliked team. Quote:

While I was always a hometown Expos fan, in the AL I liekd the Red Sox.
I waqs thrilled when they finally won, but then the fans got so obnoxious it was unbearable and now they are public enenmy one in my book. |

Well, the article actually says that no team is truly disliked. They say that the Indians are least liked, which makes perfect sense. Those guys are terrible. Who wants to root for them, questionable team name/logo aside?

Where does the article say that? It says no team got a negative number...but it clearly states "The No. 1 most disliked team in baseball, according to the formula, is the Cleveland Indians."
Anyhoo... I'm certain the fact they are not liked by many people defaults them into this position. I've never met an Indians fan other than, Drew Carey or Jerry 'The King' Lawler. |

Yeah, the author makes that statement because it's catchier, but clarifies that it really isn't correct when he says that no team got a negative number. The study wasn't a measurement of how disliked each team is. The study was a measurement of people's overall impression of each team, good and bad. I'm sure that the Yankees and Red Sox are both liked and disliked a whole lot more than the Indians. The Indians get the most neutral score because no one cares about them.

Gee, I wonder what the Indians could do with a 180-200 million dollar payroll.

That happens when you outbid for everyone...
The Yankee spending argument is a futile attempt, when they were winning in the late 90's their payroll wasn't under fire and they've only won once since everybody's been complaining about it. The Sox have won 2 since than and I never hear anybody complain about their spending. |

Here's my take on the Yankee hate. First this article doesn't mean much to me.
While I understand why people hate the Yankees I just don't agree with it. Oh I am a Yankee fan but they are not my favorite team. When people say the Yankees try to buy championships I just don't understand why it's that big of a deal. The era we are in is about getting the best free agents. It just so happens that the Yankees spend money on there team as opposed to a team like the marlins. If teams want to make as much money as the Yankees then they should spend more to make more. It's a business option that businesses do all the time. It's risky but hey maybe it will pay off. Now with that said here are a few other points that should be made. Baseball needs a salary cap. But if thats gets done then a salary floor needs to also be added. If your team can't stay above x amount you get punished by losing draft picks. If you are below the the salary floor for 3 or 5 years straight then relocation would be the next step. For the salary cap I would do it this way. First a team can go over x amount to only sign players accepting the league min. Also you can go over the salary cap to resign your own players. But you are taxed a certain amount if you go over. Now that tax would go into league advertising and not to other clubs. Also there would be just a plain hard cap for teams that can only be broken to sign players to the league min. Anyway that's all my opinion. I like the Yankees but I see why people think it isn't fair. It's MLBs fault for letting team salaries get so high not the yankees fault for spending there baseball revenue on baseball. Oh and I also think there should be a rookie cap for signing players. It sucks that MLB uses unions because that's why nothing will ever get fixed. |

I'll keep my response short....
I don't like the salary cap for one reason...NFL Baseball to me is about the players and the team they play for, by implementing a salary cap you force teams to release cap heavy players and cause them to jump from team to team. Baseball is fine the way it is, until a select few teams start winning all of the championships, there is nothing to complain about. |

Aren't those average scores? I think there are more Yankees lovers than Red Sox lovers, and that pushed the Yankees score to be higher than the Red Sox.

It would work in better in baseball ball because if you release a player you are still stuck with his contract. |

I like that the A's are one of the most liked. Though, I think it's more that they're not hated rather than they are liked. They are kind of just there, not bothering anyone.
I hate the Giants more than I hate any team, but that is from living in the Bay Area as an A's fan. You will find most A's fans hate the Giants but Giants fans are meh about the A's. |

Yeah, exactly. You guys have the new stadium, the better city, and get more love and attention from the local media. We have Al Davis' crapbowl of a stadium and 4 World Championships that no one remembers, the most recent of which was overshadowed by the earthquake and steroids.
