2 RBIs?
Men on 2nd and 3rd. The batter, Bowman, hits a fly to left- which the LF drops (this happens a bit too much in the OOTP universe)- and two runners score. The pitcher in not charged with any earned runs. However, Bowman is credited with 2 RBIs in the box score.
Can someone explain? And, yes, our pitcher's name is Buxtuc Madu. |

Wrong, you don't get RBI's if the runners score due to an error. Should be zero RBI's on this play.
If there were less than 2 outs, the official scorer could have ruled that the runner from 3rd would have scored on a sacrifice fly if there was no error, but the runner on 2nd wouldn't have scored on that so the batter would get credit for a sac fly, and 1 RBI (no RBI for the runner from 2nd scoring). |

Yeah, with two outs that's 0 ER and 0 RBI. With less than two outs it's probably 1 ER and 1 RBI. Under no circumstances is it 0 ER and 2 RBI.
I think I may be the (inadvertent) cause of this. The game used to give no RBIs in a lot of situations where it should have, and I spent several versions complaining about it. It looks like it's been fixed, but rather haphazardly, so now we have RBIs being given where they shouldn't be.

Buxtuc Madu shows an ERA of 5.47 over six seasons. We probably should have sent him down to AA several years ago but feared running afoul of Title VII or, God forbid, the ACLU. He's from Zululand.
Hickman, on the other hand better shape up pronto. Quote:
In the outfield, however, the game seems to strive to produce accurate fielding numbers at the expense of reflecting how most errors occur there; namely misplayed hits and errant throws on cut-off attempts. There are still too many dropped flies, imo- a relatively rare occurrence. In Bowman's example, this more plausibly should have been a single to LF that took a wicked hop and went throw the left-fielder's legs or a wild throw to home into the box seats producing one earned run and one unearned run. I wonder how they came up with the ratio on outfield errors, because as you say dropped fly balls are relatively rare compared with throwing errors or muffed line drives to give the hitter an extra base.

The incident I reported is a minor bug but OOTP could use some refinement in this aspect of the game, no doubt entailing some extra coding and pbp entries. |

I don't know. There's been a ton of dropped fly balls in real life baseball this season so far. You see one almost every game.

You're talking about Major League Baseball? Yes, it happens but not in epidemic fashion.
Fact is, I'm not seeing any cut-off miscues or pooched base hits in the OF in game. Maybe something worth considering for OOTP12. |
