How to play
Hi, I am new to OOTP but really enjoying it so far.
What I cant decide tho is the way of handling games. Is there a big difference if I dont manage completely myself? I like managing the games but Im worried it would take too long to finish a season. I remember my FM games being pretty long.. So if the result would be more or less realistic when quick playing the innings or half innings with occasional manual subs etc I would probably do that ![]() Thanks in advance for any insight |

You can do whatever you like.
Some play out each game slowly pitch by pitch, others play one pitch, some sim a game at a time, others sim a week at time, still others like the 15 day or month ritual of sim, and finally you have those that sim the entire season and then do all the off-season duties-- effectively functioning as a GM. I personally prefer a hybrid where I try to play one pitch mode for about 2 games in at least one series from each divisional rival and about 1 game from other teams in the league early in the season. This provides me with a better sense of immersion and who is who in the league (it makes the league come to life so to speak). Then I will sim one or two weeks at a time after the initial game play. This also helps as it is hard to evaluate your players until they get about 50 games under their belt (statistically speaking). This method also moves things along fast enough so that you do not get bogged down in one season. Hope this helps. Last edited by jagreen; 04-22-2010 at 11:32 PM. |

![]() But what Im mainly concerned about is how much of a difference I can make when I take over completely. |

There won't be much of a difference in 'realism' with you managing versus letting the AI simulate the game. The AI will make some weird bench/bullpen decisions (for instance, the AI just put Mike Lowell in at CF for three innings during an injury situation in my solo league) but over the course of a season your stat lines should all lineup to look normal.
