My new league has thrown up a few good names, but this one just caught my eye - Bob Nice. Nickname? "The Beast".
Made me chuckle anyway. EDIT: Also, its a good job that Franklin Pierce Adams never had to write about my league - just had a game with 6 double plays in, scored: Mitchum-Keever-Schmidinger, Marker-Mitchum-Schmidinger, Marker-Mitchum-Schmidinger, Keever-Mitchum-Schmidinger, Keever-Mitchum-Schmidinger; Wiseman-Keith-Schonenberger. Not quite as poetic as Tinker-Evers-Chance... Last edited by English_Ray; 04-18-2010 at 12:19 PM. |

One of the fictional owners in one of my historical games had almost the same name as my former boss. And he wasn't a pleasant owner at that! Talk about creepy coincidences...
Another owner was named Bill Bell, but it's mostly funny in my case because "bilbil" is Tagalog for body fat. And I got a lot of that in my tummy. ![]() Any Simpsons names crop up so far? I manually named one of my owners "C. Montgomery Burns" and made him especially stingy and impatient. Too bad he died after one season, aged 81 (Monty Burns' original age in the Simpsons). I wonder what would've happened had I set his age to 104, as that's Monty Burns' age in later Simpsons seasons... |

Am running a regular 2010 MLB game and I'm in my third year of play. This recent draft's interesting...
We've got Puerto Rican catcher Cesar Cedeno, Canadian shortstop Marcel Dion (no -ne at the end, though) and another Canadian, center fielder Jimi Lefebvre, who sounds like a cross between the former manager of (nearly) the same name and one of my favorite guitarists of all time...and also a starting pitcher named Bill Shoemaker. And while he's not named after a former athlete this draft's got a starting pitcher named Tom Morrow. And a middle reliever named Alfredo Newman. What, me worry? And finally, there's one player here who shares a name with a former co-worker of mine, but his name's fairly common anyway. Okay, back to the draft...and hoping next year produces someone on the level of Dick Cockburn and the ever-so-famous Haywood Jablowme! EDIT - Am currently drafting. Tom Morrow went 13th, Cesar Cedeno was picked in the second round...GM probably thought he's related to the real thing. And further examining the pool, I saw a center fielder named Adam Adams.

2014 draft in aforementioned league isn't too exciting, but we've got a Bobby Hatfield (late Righteous Brothers co-vocalist) and Mike Stiffler in the draft...I'm on God mode so the latter player automatically gets nicknamed "Stiffmeister".

My 2017 draft features catchers Joe Bro and Juan (Johnny?) Bravo.
To divert from the celebrity/athlete/weird names we've encountered, is it really normal to have the AI creating fictional players with incomplete last names? Previously I encountered a "Duane McD" and in this draft I've got a "Donald B"...talk about players from Witness Protection High...

Bryan O'Brien was the third best catcher in my league's history.
