Irrevocable Waivers

Hi.

I have a problem with OOTP11. I realize that my problem may simply be a lack of understanding.

It seems my game will not produce Revocable waivers. Teams are losing players to Irrevocable waivers that they would never put on waivers to begin with.

For instance, Washington has put Chris Coghlan, Andrew McCutchen and Jason Heyward on waivers. They all have 3 option years left. Game date is May 5, 2010. They have all been classified as Irrevocable waivers.

Shouldn't the waivers be revocable, because they have option years left?

If not, shouldn't Washington be doing something other than exposing them to Irrevocable waivers? The outfielders on the parent club are Adam Dunn, Chris Duncan, Nyjer Morgan, Willie Harris, Josh Willingham, and Jerry Owens. Wouldn't Washington be better off exposing three of these players?

I suspect that all waivers in my game are Irrevocable. I cannot find a way to change this. Nor can I find a way to edit the waiver status in Commissioner mode. Perhaps, my only option is to either ignore waivers or turn waivers off all together. Actually, leaving waivers on will erroneously expose my players to Irrevocable waivers.

Am I missing something? Is there problem that prevents OOPT11 from producing Revocable waivers? Has anyone else encountered this behavior?

Thanks!!!
It is raining in Portland.

Having option years just means that the team can freely move them down to the minors without waivers. If the team takes them off the 40-man roster, then they have to put them on irrevocable waivers. So, for whatever reason, those players must have been taken off the 40-man OR there was a bug that was fixed in v11 where you could put a player on revocable waivers then take them off the 40-man roster with no penalty. So, the fix is that you can't just put a guy who's on the 40-man roster on revocable waivers.

Thanks. But, I still have a question. Why would anyone in their right mind expose the reinging NL Rookie of the Year to irrevocable waivers? That is just giving him away, isn't it? Why not trade him? Or, better yet, why not start him?

That's a good question. On the surface, it's a bad AI decision, and only Markus can answer that. I'd suggest reporting it as a bug, but be prepared to send your league files and a lot of details about which players were where at the time. It may have been that the player was put on the 40-man roster and shouldn't have been in the first place, but I don't know the exact scenario.

Well, I could give you a long, complicated answer about how difficult it is to program the AI to see these players the same way you do, but instead of that how about this?

Why should it matter if another AI managed team gets him? Also, if you take advantage of the AI's "mistakes" than you will find the AI too easy to beat, so why do that?

You may not like those answers, but complaining about the foolish things that the AI in a commercial computer sim game will do from time to time, is a bit like complaining about the weather. Just carry an umbrella ...
