Wrong Marlins Stadium

The one included in the All-In-One MLB pack has fans in the seats. Can we get this fixed?

Marlins still have one the highest TV and Radio ratings in baseball. Yeah we just don't go to that football stadium in droves.

The new stadium will cure a lot, as will time. I am a transplant who has adopted the Marlins, and my children bleed Marlin Teal. Cody Ross is a cult hero in this household. Wait 10 years, with a new stadium and a generation of new baseball fans they will thrive. Miami is the 6th biggest metropolis in America, they will embrace baseball soon enough. That is, when their children don't root for the Mets or the Yankees.

I love posts like these, because I enter with some trepidation, expecting to have to handle a bug, and I get to laugh instead.

You want to fix the attendance, or the image?

No, he's right! The Oakland stadium looks practically empty, so somehow the Marlins stadium must have gotten screwed up. What a game ... there's always something great to complain about!

I watched a Marlins game on MLB.tv a few days ago and it was pretty sad. Hanley Ramirez is more than enough for me to watch them. I will be interested to see how a new stadium would affect everything.

Related to that. It's a strange feeling to go into the stadium setup in the game and there is only 1 dome in MLB nowadays.

I was at opening day (well night) vs the Dodgers and the announced attendance barely broke 20k. Good weather, good team, bad turnout.

Maybe the Mets were in town because that's the only time people come

As a fan of a team who was just a year ago, forced to play baseball in the corner of a football stadium; I feel your pain Marlins fans. When is your new stadium supposed to open? And did I hear right that part of the deal involved a named change from Florida to Miami? I like the sound of Miami Marlins better myself personally.

Note to self: Princess Kenny was really off-putting.

2012. Yes, Miami Marlins. The only bad part of this deal is the location imo. It's farther for Palm Beach and Broward fans.

Always thought it was stupid that, the Marlins win the World Series faster than any other expansion team. Win it twice in fact, and it takes so long to get a stadium for them, while almost every single other expansion team gets a pretty much brand new stadium out of the box.

Miami was just named by Forbes Magazine as one of the 10 U.S. metro areas in economic "free fall". I'm not convinced that a new stadium will do anything to boost attendance long-term. We will see a one to two-year boost like we have in every case in baseball history, but if the team on the field is not in contention, attendance will drop back to abysmal levels.

Pretty much how I felt about moving the Expos to Washington.

Yeah, how many times is MLB going to go through this nonsense in Washington before it realizes that baseball will not succeed there long-term without a perennial contender?

That's a good part of it. Another part is what always made Montreal and Toronto special was the fact they were teams outside of the United States. I still love the concept of teams from other cities in other countries within North America being a part of the MLB. I personally wanted the team to move either to another Canadian city or San Juan, PR. Honestly I like San Juan best. First some of the highest attendance numbers for the Expos were when they started the season in San Juan. Carribean Countries love baseball, it would have had a fan base that easily would have rivaled the Yankees. Also, and this is a separate issue, I think it would have legitimized Puerto Rico as a part of the United States, which it could really use. I just think it's long since time we welcomed Puerto Rico as the 51st State, as long as they wanted to be that state.

I was there.

The announced attendance was 40,666 and it certainly could pass for around 40k.

The Marlins weren't last in attendance last season. Thank you A's.

Politcally, South Florida isn't favored by the rest of the state.

I dislike Miami vs Florida (I'm from Broward), but Miami put up the money for the team...unfortunately the fans with the money to spend aren't in Dade for the most part.

I wish one of the teams would adopt South Florida instead of just Miami or Florida.

That's why all Minnesota's high-level professional teams are "Minnesota" and the most area specific any team gets is the "TC" logos the Twins have. Didn't wanna make anyone from Minneapolis or Saint Paul angry by ignoring either city, which are pretty much viewed as one big city for most purposes.
