Historical Replay question...
so, what I'm attempting to do, I want to simulate the entire history of baseball starting in 1871.
My question is this... I've ran two different sims, to 1930, because I wanted to see the outcome... one thing I notice is that with trades off, obviously, no players are traded... if I have trades turned on, well, Babe Ruth plays for Detriot and Lou Gehrig plays for Chicago (A). What I'm wondering is if it's possible to reply the entire history of baseball "accurately"...? So if I sim from 1871 to 1930, are there any settings/options that allow me to "accurately" replay history? Or is it a total dice roll? Thanks.

The game has settings to automatically update your league totals, strategy, and finances as the years progress. However, you may need to manually set your schedule length and to change roster rules. You'll also want to turn off free agency and make some other tweaks.
Unfortunately, your results for the late 19th century can't possibly be truly accurate, because the rules of baseball were so different at that time. But otherwise your stats, strategy and finances should be pretty accurate. Relief pitchers, closers, and relief usage can sometimes deviate from history too. There are other postings on the forums that get into all the different roster, waiver, and other rules that evolved through the decades. You have to make these kinds of changes yourself, because the game does not have automatic options to change them according to history. |

One other question, and I guess more specific to what I was asking... if I want "rosters" to be accurate... ie: the Babe plays for Boston until 1919, then the AI automatically sends him to NYA in 1920, Mr. Gehrig doesn't play for CHA, etc... do I have to manually manipulate this or is it something the computer AI does via a setting? Thanks.

That has to be done manually. The game has no transaction files that it uses.

I like to make all the trades and such myself. It takes a while but I really enjoy paying attention to all the small details of my league. If you start in 1871 it may be hard to make all the roster moves accurate. I always start with 1901 and use Baseball-Reference.com - Major League Baseball Statistics and History for all the transactions.

gents (all 3 of you), thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
I understand what needs to be done and so be it. Cheers.
