OK Historical simmers
How do the stats in this version compare to prior versions. I thought 10 got it pretty close, but there were still some anomalies. Any feedback so far?

Using the season replay mode, stats are usually pretty accurate, especially leaguewide. If you use the comparison tool for sim results vs. real life, the league totals are usually within a normal margin of error in most categories.
You will still see some variations in individual performances, though. Overall things are fairly consistent, and the best players in various categories in real life will tend to be among the best in those categories in OOTP. But you will usually see some significant variations in every season that you play. This is an area of the game that needs continual improvement, although it seems to get better with each release. And I think it has with this one. Last edited by Charlie Hough; 04-14-2010 at 07:56 AM. |

The biggest change in OOTP11 is that historical leagues get valid stats in the first season. That is a huge benefit. Other than that, the most important changes were related to fielding, and trying to get that right (still a work in progress, but it's getting there). There were other tweaks, but the improvement will be in the eye of the beholder.

I'm going to download and run a 1901 sim after I get home. Things I'll be looking at:
1. Are the good teams good and the bad teams bad? In OOTP 9 the Reds could win the pennant. 2. How often will the computer play fielders completely out of position? Does the computer still think Lajoie would make a good shortstop? 3. How close do the top pitchers come to replicating their results? (Hitting has been close for several years now) 4. Is Amos Rusie still a monster, or is he the washed up night watchman to be that he actually was in 1901?

do you still have to use a draft for pre-1901 leagues when setting up a league?

Yes, and you have to run a custom rather than historical league to use the real franchises.

Early returns are decent. Lajoie is indeed a 2nd baseman, and Rusie is down to a 3 star player. I'm going to play a few games out and see what happens.

You can still choose which database to import historical rookies for each league? Everything finally worked for me in ootp x. I had it setup to have the NA, NL,AA,LA,UA,PL,FL,& the MLB. With only players debuted with the league they debuted in. I was able to reire and bring players back easy from 2 lists i made. I used the actual played schedules and the only problem was figuring out dates for trades but thats not an ootp problem. The only other thing was not being able to have a combined leaderboard for leagues so players in the NA could combine stats in the NL. I take it that it is the same case for ootpXI but i can live with that. |
