Linux installer/uninstaller
I have some gripes about the installer for linux. My first problem with it is when I choose the recommended setting it will install all the data files to "~/.Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 11/" while the binary to run the game and the uninstaller get installed to the same directory that I run the installer from. Not liking that setup I decide to install to /usr/games/ootp11 so I go to uninstall and I get an error saying "Uninstallation Data Missing". Ok, no big deal I can just delete the files manually. After doing that I place the installer (ootp11linuxsetup.bin) in /usr/games/ootp11 and choose the recommended setting again thinking all the data files will once again go to "~/.Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 11/" and the binary and uninstaller will go to my current directory which is /usr/games/ootp11. Instead I notice all the data files are now going to "/opt/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 11/" with the binary and uninstaller going to "/opt/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 11/bin". It seems to not listen to me when I tell it where to install the files.
To summarize I want to install data files in "~/.Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 11/" I want to install the binary and uninstaller in "/usr/games/ootp11/" It does its own thing without announcing instead of installing where I want. Isn't there an easy to use rpm or even just a tarball I could use instead of this wonky installer? And the creation of shortcuts on the menu seems to be hit and miss. Sometimes they will be installed, sometimes not. Last edited by rig99; 04-13-2010 at 02:59 PM. |

I agree with most of what you said above, but I don't control the installer configuration. My best suggestion is to NOT do the default install, and create the directory that you want to install to. That way the game installs everything to yoru custom directory and the .Out of the Park directory that you refer to.
You didn't mention the distribution your were using. There is a short Linux knowledge base article here: Troubleshooting OOTP on Linux - Kayako eSupport Help Desk Software

After I came to the conclusion that it will just not let you install to /usr/games/ootp11 for whatever reason, I decided to run the installer from /opt/ootp11 and install to /opt/ootp11. This worked flawlessly. The binary and uninstaller are there along with all the game data while the configuration junk is in my user home.
If you do this make sure to change owner of /opt/ootp11 to your user rather than running the installer with sudo. For some reason the installer ignores $HOME and will install all configuration data to /root/.Out of the Park Developments/ if you run with sudo. |
