Chicago White Sox 2010 Season Thread
Great 6-0 win to start the year. Paulie with the 2-run homer, The Buehrle One with 7 great innings and...
THIS PLAY! Baseball Video Highlights & Clips | CLE@CWS: Buehrle's backhand flick gets the runner - Video | MLB.com: Multimedia Just wow! Got a really good feeling about this year. I think we can win the division and anything can happen in the playoffs.

Alex Rios also went deep late in the game, and pulled off a diving catch to seal the victory. Hopefully, that is a portent of things to come for him.
Bafflingly, Ozzie decided to play Kotsay at DH and bat him fifth. Paulie still wound up hitting that two-run shot in the first, so hopefully the lack of protection won't wind up being an issue for him. |

Opening day wins are always nice. gives us a shot to go from pillar to post in front. With our pitching staff this seems like a good possibility.
Opening day. Seems like yesterday when i ran home from school to see Minnie homer and set off that new scoreboard back in '60.

Really nice game yesterday. I know it is only the first game so I'm not going to get too excited, but I liked what I saw from everyone. Go Sox!

As a long time fan I grab my excitement when I can. Seen a few seasons when we were out of it by Memorial Day.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but the shutout came against a lineup with such fearsome names as Lou Marson, Jhonny Peralta and Matt LaPorta. This lineup will see more than it's share of shutouts, I fear.
Plus, 5 of the 6 runs were scored off of a guy who hadn't pitched a regular season game in the Majors in a year and a half... and that's my team's ACE. Guh.

That play by Buehrle was one of the best I've ever seen.

I guess this means we should expect nothing less than a no-hitter out of Peavy tonight, huh?

Um, no, considering the Indians best hitters are left-handers. And only if you consider Jake Peevy to be exponentially better than Mark Buehrle. That's not to say that Peavy shouldn't be expected to give up more than 4 hits, as well. Plus, Fausto Carmona is an enigma. He walked 2 batters all spring. He's walked a small village tonight and it's still early. Plus, how the hell do you give up a no-doubt home run on a 1-2 pitch? It's unforgivable. He can't place anything tonight.

Ugly game tonight, we deserved to lose. Sox left what felt like 20 guys on base. Pierre stuck on 2nd with 1 out in the 9th and they couldn't push him across. Nice SP as expected but the bats took the night off.

Did you guys pinch hit for the DH tonight? wtf? In chicago? Seriously? WOW!
Some interesting calls tonight...tight zone from the umpire...couple of interesting base running decisions by both teams...couple of close fair/foul calls... |

No, Jones was DH. We should have though. I'd have more faith with Jenks in the box than the guys we've got.
There's still a long season left to go...if I can make it

Jones pinch-hit for Kotsay during the Cleveland series, actually. I suspect that we'll see this far too often, given the DH-By-Committee thing that Ozzie seems to be insisting on.

How are you liking Rios so far? I saw him get doubled off 2B on Saturday, on a play that a little leaguer should be able to see easily.

Meh. His head's just not there.
Take Saturday's game, for example. The Twins had the bases loaded and one out in the first inning. Cuddyer flies out to center. Orlando Hudson, for some reason, was pretty much all the way to third. Rios doesn't notice, and casually throws the ball back into the infield. Mercifully, Konerko was paying attention and fired the ball to second, doubling Rios off and ending the inning. Rios just wasn't paying attention. He could've easily doubled Hudson off - hell, he probably could've RUN the ball back to second faster than Hudson could've gotten back there. I can see why Toronto put him on waivers. |
