Unable to convert Historical League to X

We were trying to convert an on-line historical league from 8 to X.

We were converting on 29 OCT just prior to end of season.

1) I converted 8 to 9. Other than a cursory view that it looked like where we were I did no testing here.

2) I converted the 9 file to X. Performed the same basic cursory view.

3) I ran end of season and recalc with no tecnical problems. The recalc produced some different than expect results, but worked.

4) I simmed thru arbitration and the values were a lot different than we were seeing in 8. This was going to require a revamp of our financial model and thus I wanted to test some options.

5) I tried to sim thru the next season. This is where the first problem arose. The sim promoted all the 40-man roster players to the 25-man roster at the start of spring training. No way to prevent that was found.

PROBLEM 1
6) I tried to act as all the teams and manually move the players back to the minors or release as appropriate (I am the commish). While it let me do that when I went to sim the next day (regualr season), the sim went back and put all the 40-man rosters back on the 25-man roster. There was no way for me to sim past the end of spring training.

7) I went back to my initial converted file and unchecked on-line league, deleted all the managers and set all teams to AI control. This solved teh spring training problem.

8) Simed to when our rookie draft pool is announced.

PROBLEM 2

9) The sim failed to read my master file and created all fictional players.

10 Went back to the back up simed to 1 day short of the rookie pool. I took my master file and expanded it to include all the fields used by X and pointed the setup to the that file. Still only produced fictional players.

11) Went back to the day before and point the set to the default X master file. Still it only produced fictional players.

Therefore it is not possible to convert an on line historical league.

Bristolduke,

Sorry for the length of time it has taken for anyone to get back to you with regards to your issue.

I'm going to move this thread to the Historical Leagues subforum to see if anyone there can shed light on this (and it may be that it needs then to be moved to online, but it seems to me the issue probably comes from the fact it's historical)

This is hardcoded into the game in OOTP X. In real life, every player on the 40-man roster is automatically invited to spring training. This also closes a loophole wherein teams could "hide" players on their 40-man roster in the minor leagues and never use their options, essentially allowing them to keep them under team control forever. In the MLB, players use an option year every year they are on the 40-man roster and spend a portion of the season in the minor leagues (there are real life exceptions for rehab assignments and short stays, but these are not replicated in OOTP). So the game is doing what it should here. This is not an error.

Thanks Tony for moving the thread.

Dutchman - I understand the loop hole, but it still has to be an error. If on opening day, I as commish, go into every team and demote the players to minors (expending an option year) to establish 25-man roster and then select sim one day, the sim should go back and push all the 40-man roster players back to the 25-man roster and then give me a error saying teams have more than 25 players on the 25-man roster.
