Fighting Harada vs Katsutoshi Aoki - Harada survived a 2nd round knockdown to outbox Aoki 11-4, 10-5, 11-4.

Eijiro Murata vs Daisuke Maruyama - Murata used the entire ring to keep Mauryama at bay while punishing him repeatedly for charging in, scoring a pair of knockdowns during his 9-4, 9-4, 9-5 decision.

Katsuhige Kawashima vs Satoshi Shingaki - Shingaki completed his 3 knockdown destruction of Kawashima with the KO in the 9th round.

Hozumi Hasegawa vs Joichiro Tatsuyoshi - Tatsuyoshi needed all of 38 seconds to dispatch Hasegawa with a thunderous hook for the 1st round KO!

Semi-Finals:

Fighting Harada vs Satoshi Shingaki - After getting off to a slow start in the first 3 rounds, Harada dominated the 4th and the 5th before the referee stepped in to protect Shingaki from further damage.

Eijiro Murata vs Joichiro Tatsuyoshi - This was a classic boxer slugger matchup with the slugger Tatsuyoshi getting the better of it when he walked into a wicked uppercut from Murata in the 8th round that put him down for the count!

Final:

Fighting Harada vs Eijiro Murata - Harada survived 2 early knockdowns to score a pair of his own enroute to a dominating 10-5, 10-5, 12-3 decision. The win earns Harada the spot in the World Tournament with a 4-0-0 (2) record.

The top 2 seeds, Jiro Watanabe and Katsuya Onizuka will recieve 1st round byes as there are 14 fighters in this grouping.

Quarter-Finals:

Hiroshi Kawashima vs Katsumi Makiyama - Suprisingly tough fight for the #3 seeded Kawashima as Makiyama refused to go away. Both men went back and forth until the final round. The judges scored it 11-4, 8-7, 8-7 for the relieved Kawashima.

Hidenobu Honda vs Masayuki Arinaga - Honda built up a solid lead with consistent fighting throughout only to have Arinaga come roaring back to put the decision in doubt at the end. The judges rewarded consistancy however scoring it 8-6 Honda, 7-7 even and 9-5 for Honda who wins the Majority Decision. My learned counterpart Lee MacRae had it 8-6 for Honda whilst I had it 7-7 a draw in this entertaining bout.

Satoshi Iida vs Hideyasu Ishihara - This was a back and forth slugfest that saw both men down (Iida twice), with both men sporting golf balls around their right eyes. Ishihara also suffered a reoccuring cut but his corner did a stellar job of keeping it safe for him to continue. In the end it went to the judges who scored the bout 8-7 Ishihara, 10-5 Iida, and 8-7 for Iida! I had it 10-5 Iida, and Javier Aguirre Flores had it 9-5 for Iida. The punch stats showed Iida landing 408 of 883 (46.2% ) compared to 198 of 869 (22.8%) but Ishihara landed the far harder punches throughout.

Celes Kobayashi vs Jackal Maruyama - Maruyama survived knockdowns in the 5th and 6th rounds to come back with the KO win in the 9th! Kobayashi was well up on all 3 cards despite losing a point on a round that he scored a KO in.

Kenji Matsumura vs Prosper Matsuura - Matsumura built up a commanding lead through 13 rounds and threw it all away in the 14th with his 6th and final foul, a blatant low blow. Matsurra prospered from this to move forward.

Trash Nakanuma vs Nobuo Nashiro - This was a fight with a decidedly defensive bent that was decided when Nakanuma suffered a nasty gash over his left eye to end it in the 10th round.

Quarter-Finals:

Jiro Watanabe vs Jackal Maruyama - After 2 close action packed rounds, Watanabe connects with the knockdown punch in the 3rd then poured it on until the referee ended it for the TKO!

Katsuya Onizuka vs Prosper Matsuura - Dominating performance by Onizuka saw Matsuura on the canvas in the 1st round then cut badly in the 2nd. The gash reopened in the 4th to formally end a fight that was an obvious mismatch. Score it a 4th round TKO for Onizuka.

Hiroshi Kawashima vs Hidenobu Honda - Brutal fight that saw Honda down and both men sporting serious cuts. Honda started fast and built up a lead, but Kawashima came roaring back to even things when in the 12th his cut reopened. The ring doctor ordered the bout stopped handing Honda the 12th round TKO! Honda was up 6-5 on all 3 cards through 11.

Satoshi Iida vs Nobuo Nashiro - Defensive battle between to boxers that didn't wish to mix it up much. It went to the judges who had it 9-5, 7-7, 8-5 for the winner Iida.

Semi-Finals:

Jiro Watanabe vs Hidenobu Honda - Watanabe was simply dominating against Honda, wearing him down with both handspeed and power until Honda went down 3 times in the 11th. Honda gamely got to his feet each time, but the referee finally ended it shortly after the final knockdown for the TKO win by Watanabe.

Katsuya Onizuka vs Satoshi Iida - Iida survived a 1st round knockdown to make a fight of it as the fans were on their feet for most of the fight! In the end Onizuka was too strong, scoring a 2nd knockdown in the 14th round before the referee ended it for the TKO by Onizuka.

Final:

Jiro Watanabe vs Katsuya Onizuka - Both men strived to control the infighting and it paid off for Watanabe as he scored 2 knockdowns, the final one for the 10 count in the 8th round to win the World Tournament berth!

We have 25 fighters in the Flyweight Division. The top 7 seeds will recieve a bye. They are Koki Kameda, Hiroyuki Ebihara, Susumu Hanagata, Daisuke Naito, Masao Ohba, Yoshio Shirai and Katsuyoshi Takayama.

Round 1:

Sadao Yaoita vs Katsuhiro Akita - Yaoita wasn't impressive but he was piling up the points early when he scored the TKO on a gash over the left eyebrow of Akita in the 4th round.

Speedy Akira vs Masaru Fuji - Fuji was getting the better of this bout against Akira when he was knocked down not once, but 2 times in the 9th round, the 2nd for the KO! Akira was behind on 2 of the 3 cards at the time of the stop.

Kimio Furesawa vs Takeyuki Kojima - It took 90 seconds for Furesawa to drive home a brutal cross that put Kojima down for the count!

Noriyuki Komatsu vs Hayato Asai - Asai made this a close fight with dogged determination against the slick boxing Komatsu. Komatsu's knockdowns in 3 separate rounds, including one in the 14th and another in the 15th, made all the difference in the world as the judges scored it 8-7, 8-7, 8-7 for Komatsu.

Hitoshi Misako vs Beaver Kajimoto - Misako built up a solid lead with stronger and more accurate punching. The fight was decided by a nasty gash on the right eyelid of Kajimoto in the 13th for the TKO.

Koji Kobayashi vs Yukito Tamakuma - Excellent fight that saw Tamakuma fight back from a pair of knockdowns, including one in what was the deciding 15th round. The judges scored it 8-7 Tamakuma, 8-7 Kobayashi and 8-7 for Kobayashi for the Split Decision.

Kyo Noguchi vs Jiro Takada - Entertaining boxing exhibition saw Noguchi pull out a close hard fought decision 7-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Takafumi Sakata vs Nobuyuki Enomoto - This was flat out one of the smelliest fights I've covered in the Japanese section of the tournament as both men seemed afraid to actually fight for the most part. Unfortunately we'll do it again as the judges scored it 7-7, 7-7, 7-6 Enomoto for the Majority Draw.

Hiroshi Nakano vs Shoji Oguma - Oguma was by far the stronger fighter as both men worked on the inside through most of the bout. Neither man went down, but Oguma's work rate, accuracy and stronger punches took the day 11-4, 12-3, 11-4.

Rematch:

Takefumi Sakata vs Nobuyuki Enomoto - Another very close fight, though to the delight of the crowd they actually came to fight this time! Neither man went down but they scrapped as if they wanted to continue in the tourney through most of the 15 rounds. The judges scored the bout 8-7 Sakata, 7-6 Enomoto and 8-7 for the winner Sakata!

Round 2:

Koki Kameda vs Shoji Oguma - Kameda scored a pair of knockdowns in the first round then subsquently pounded on Oguma until the referee finally ended the bout in the 7th round for the TKO.

Hiroyuki Ebihara vs Speedy Akira - Despite an early knockdown, Akira put on a masterful display of ring generalship against the agressive Ebihara to win handily 9-4, 11-2, 12-2 while nearly closing both of his man's eyes.

Susumu Hanagata vs Kimio Furesawa - A very good action bout between Hanagata and Furesawa saw Hanagata build up a lead and cut Furesawa's right eyebrow. Furesawa nearly closed Hanagata's left eye with repeated jabs however, and it made a difference in the 14th as he was unable to see a series of right hands that rocked him repeatedly until the referee ended the bout for the Furesawa TKO!

Daisuke Naito vs Koji Kobayashi - Back and forth bout that saw Kobayashi score a knockdown in the 14th, then take the 15th to pull out the 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 decision despite losing a point to a low blow in the 10th round.

Masao Ohba vs Noriyuki Komatsu - There were brilliant rounds and dull rounds almost all very close rounds though Ohba impressed the judges far more winning 9-5, 12-2, 11-4.

Yoshio Shirai vs Hitoshi Misako - After 3 slow rounds Shirai came out on fire landing power shot after power shot until the referee wrapped up a hapless Misako for the 4th round TKO.

Katsuyoshi Takayama vs Kyo Noguchi - After a slow start Takayama took over and was winning handily when he opened a gusher of a cut on the hairline of Noguchi to end things in the 8th for the TKO.

Sadao Yaoita vs Takefumi Sakata - Excellent back and forth bout that saw Yaoita open a gash on the inside of the left eyebrow of Sakata to end things in the 9th round for the TKO win.

Quarter-Finals:

Koki Kameda vs Speedy Akira - Absolutely thrilling fight that went down to the wire! Akira, the boxer scored the only 2 knockdowns, but that didn't phase Kameda as he kept coming on, taking several rounds late to make it close. I had it 8-7 Kameda while Richard Plunkett had it 7-8. The judges scored it 8-7, 8-6, 8-7 for the winner by unanimous decision, Koki Kameda! Have to hand it to Akira as he was the 3-1 underdog against the top seeded Kameda.

Masao Ohba vs Kimio Furesawa - Furesawa cut the ring off beautifully in the final 4 rounds of this fight. It all culminated in a KO early in the 7th round as Ohba just didn't have the skills to keep him at bay.

Yoshio Shirai vs Koji Kobayashi - Shirai built up a lead, then hurt Kobayashi bad in the 9th round, nearly having him out on his feet when the bell rang. Sensing the end he came out looking to put Kobayashi away in the 10th, scored a knockdown then poured on the hurt until the referee stepped in to stop it with 1:19 left in the round for the TKO.

Katsuyoshi Takayama vs Sadao Yaoita - Back and forth bout between 2 technicians that saw Takayama take a controversial 8-7, 8-7, 11-4 decision. Most ringside observers felt Yaoita took it in the final 2 rounds.

Semi-Finals:

Koki Kameda vs Kimio Furesawa - Kameda survived a 4th round knockdown to dominate scoring 2 knockdowns in the deciding 8th round, the final for the KO!

Yoshio Shirai vs Kasuyoshi Takayama - An all out brawl from the first round, Shirai was dominant, scoring a knockdown in the 9th then 2 more in the 11th before the referee finally had seen enough to end it for the TKO win for Shirai.

Final:

Koki Kameda vs Yoshio Shirai - Kameda battered and bruised Shirai for 8 rounds, then in the 9th round scored a pair of knockdowns, including the KO shot with 10 seconds left in the round to advance to the World Tournament!

Fight-Ins:

Katsuo Tokashiki vs Shigeo Nakajima - Another bout between 2 stylists that went the distance, with neither man down. With too many low scoring hard to choose rounds, it was a toss up but the judges came to a decision, scoring it 8-7 on all 3 cards for Nakajima.

Masato Hatakeyama vs Tatsuo Hayashida - 2 boxers went at it in this one, with Hayashida building up a lead then going into protection mode when he was cut in the 13th. Hatakeyama scored a knockdown in the 14th, and another in the 15th in an attempt to take control but it was too little, too late as Hayashida holds on to win 7-6, 8-7, 8-7.

Quarter-Finals:

Yoko Gushiken vs Shigeo Nakajima - Gushiken was content to work on his boxing skills in this dominating performance. The judges were quite impressed, giving him the 14-1, 13-2, 12-2 decision against the out classed Nakajima.

Shingo Yamaguchi vs Tatsuo Hayashida - Yamaguchi was cut in the 2nd round of this fight and it had a profound effect as he went into pure boxing mode to keep Hayashida away throughout this dull bout. It paid off for him however as he won 8-5, 9-4, 9-4 to move on.

Hiroki Ioka vs Nobuaki Masuda - Ioka was able to score a pair of knockdowns late to seal a narrow 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 decision over a tougher than expected Masuda.

Jun Kitano vs Tadashi Tomori - Tomori showed suprising ring presence in dominating Kitano. He used the entire ring and slipped punches with ease in winning 12-3, 9-6, 11-4.

Semi-Finals:

Yoko Gushiken vs Hiroki Ioka - Gushiken battered Ioka around the ring for 15 rounds, scoring 4 knockdowns and nearly closing his right eye. It ended up going to the judges who scored it 11-4, 12-3, 11-4 for Gushiken.

Shingo Yamaguchi vs Tadashi Tomori - Yamaguchi was out boxing Tomori throughout, but a troublesome cut on the inside of the right eyebrow ended his night in the 12th round for the TKO by Tomori.

Final:

Yoko Gushiken vs Tadashi Tomori - Gushiken dominated from the opening bell, scoring seemingly at will until the referee finally had seen Tomori hurt once too often and ended it late in the 3rd round for the TKO! Gushiken takes a 3-0-0 (1) record to the World Tournament where he's expected to be a leader for this Japanese Team.

Junichiro Kaneda vs Shigeharu Akitsuki - Kaneda battered Akitsuki for 15 rounds, scoring a pair of knockdowns in his 13-1, 12-2, 13-1 victory.

Satoshi Kogumazaka vs Makoto Kana - Kogumazaka used superior defense and an impressive array of punches to dominate Kana 11-4, 12-3, 12-3. Kogmanazaka held Kana to a paltry 120 of 1332 punches landed with his stellar defense.

Yasutaka Kuroki vs Hiroshi Kasamatsu - Dominant performance by Kuroki as he mauled Kasamatsu for 9 rounds before scoring the KO in the 10th round.

Hiroshi Matsumoto vs Katsumi Komiyama - Komiyama was fighting the perfect fight against Mastumoto, nearly closing his left eye with an accurate jab when an unfortunate cut on the left eyelid ended things in the 9th round for the Mastumoto come from behind TKO.

Toshikazu Waga vs Hirokazu Takahashi - Bit of a back and forth bout with Waga slowly pulling ahead. Neither man was particularly spectacular in this one as it went to the scorecards. The judges scored it 9-5, 8-6, 9-5 for Waga.

Satoru Abe vs Masato Kudo - Abe had the faster hands and better footwork in this boxer vs boxer matchup. His rapier jab opened a cut over the left eye in the 3rd, then reopened it in the 9th to end the fight for the TKO

Hiroshi Nakajima vs Teruo Misawa - Nakajima survived a flash knockdown in the 1st round to take control in this one, taking 4 of the 5 final rounds on both my and Max A Davis's scorecards to win 9-5 on our cards. The judges scored it 7-7, 9-5 Nakajima and 7-6 for Misawa for a draw! The crowd was incensed and threw sushi into the ring in disgust!

Shinichi Tamaki vs Hideyuki Ohashi - Pure dominance by Tamaki after he suffered a flash knockdown in the 3rd round. He came on strong, scoring an astounding 6 knockdowns before Ohashi was finally counted out in the 11th round!

Wolf Tokimitsu vs Shoryu Reiji - Tokimitsu outworked & outslugged Reiji, scoring a knockdown in the 3rd round then wearing Reiji down over the next several rounds before laying a world of hurt on him in the 11th round. Finally the referee ended the bout in the 11th for the Tokimitsu TKO!

Keisuke Yokoyama vs Masatate Tsuji - Tsuji showed suprising moxy in this one, trying to slug it out with Yokoyama. Unfortunately this played into the hands of the slugger as he gradually pulled ahead going into the 13th. Tsuji scored a suprising knockdown in the 13th round that Yokoyama survived! He then took it to Tsuji in the 14th, landing shot after shot until Tsuji's corner threw in the towel with 35 seconds left in the round to protect their man from further harm!

Yuichi Hosono vs Takayuki Korogi - Hosono was by far the stronger fighter in this one, scoring a pair of knockdowns enroute to a KO in the 9th round. Korogi was the 2-1 favorite by the book makers, but Hosono was the fan favorite throughout!

Kazuma Kumada vs Genki Ohnaka - Ohnaka used total pressure to score 3 knockdowns, the final one in the 14th round for the KO. Kumada, the 2-1 favorite just wasn't able to find a way to get untracked in this one. Ohnaka was up 12-1, 12-1, 11-2 through 13.

Kenji Ono vs Makoto Suzuki - Suzuki came out roaring in the first 2 rounds then walked into a crushing uppercut by the usually light hitting Ono for the suprising 2nd round KO!

Rematch:

Hiroshi Nakajima vs Teruo Misawa - While there were a lot of close rounds in this one, Nakajima was the agressor, and did more damage overall as he wins 7-6, 9-2, 11-3 to move to the next round.

Sorry for the Hiatus, but I'd put so much of myself into this tourney that I burned myself out. I will begin working on it again tonight though probably not at the pace I was going before. Next series of posts will conclude the Japanese Strawweight tournament.

Round 2:

Yutaka Niida vs Yuichi Hosono - Niida came in to this bout clearly having over trained and it showed as Hosono made a fight of it from the start! Nearly every round had the fans on their feet as Hosano survived a knockdown in the 7th to score one in the 12th and then a shocking upset KO in the 14th to bump the #1 seed out of the tournament!

Keitaro Hoshino vs Genki Ohnaka - This one saw Ohnaka dominate in a good action bout, scoring a pair of knockdowns before a cut over Hoshino's eye ended things in the 10th round. Ohnaka moves forward after knocking off the #2 seeded Hoshino.

Katsunari Takayama vs Makoto Suzuki - Suzuki clearly over trained for this bout but was able to withstand a wicked onslaught early to pull out the 8-5 9-3 8-5 decision.

Junichiro Kaneda vs Satoru Abe - This was a back and forth bout between 2 boxers that saw it go down to the final round. I had it 8-7 Abe, while Will Schubert saw it 8-7 for Kaneda. The judges scored it 9-6 Abe 8-7 Kaneda and 8-7 for the winner Satoru Abe.

Satoshi Kogumazaka vs Hiroshi Nakajima - Both men had their moments, but neither went down or showed signs of having been in a fight as it went down to the wire. I had it Nakajima 8-7 while Romy Alvarez had it 7-7 a draw. It went to the judges who scored it 8-7 on all 3 cards for Nakajima.

Yasutaka Kuroki vs Shinichi Tamaki - Kuroki was building up a lead when the fighters clashed heads in the 7th round to send things to the score cards Both Rocco Del Sesto and myself had it 4-2 Tamaki at the time the fight was called. The judges scored it 4-2 Tamaki 3-3 even and 4-2 for the Technical UD for Tamaki.

Hiroshi Matsumoto vs Wolf Tomitsu - Terrific back and forth bout that had Tokimitsu seemingly with the upper hand in the 13th when a cut opened on Matsumoto's Right eyebrow to end the fight. I had it 6-6 as did our Ringside Expert Aurello Barrios. Both of us felt Matsumoto was dominating the 13th when it was ended and seemed the stronger fresher fighter. The judges had it 7-5 8-4 6-5 for Tokimitsu through 12.

Toshikazu Waga vs Keisuke Yokoyama - A great action bout that saw Yokoyama take it to Waga with a ferocious inside attack throughout. It went the distance, but Waga was battered and bleeding after the 15. Both Lee A. Crooks and I saw it 9-6 for Yokoyama with him taking 5 of the last 6 rounds to come from behind and win. The judges scored it 9-6 9-6 8-6 for the winner Yokoyama!

Try this: Reinstall the game to a new directory and see if it works that way. If it does, then my guess is there's a corruption in your current database.

Quarter-Finals:

Katsunari Takayama vs Yuichi Hosono - Hosono came out roaring taking 4 of the first 5 rounds only to have Takayama take control in the middle rounds. Hosono found a 2nd wind as Takayama ran out of gas in the final rounds to win 9-6 on my card and 9-5 on the card of my compatriot Jason Wood. With many close rounds the outcome was in the air as the judges turned in their cards. They scored it 8-7 Hosono 8-7 Takayama and 10-5 for the winner Yuichi Hosono who has now defeated both the #1 and #3 seeds in this tourney.

Satoru Abe vs Genki Ohnaka - In a brutal affair that saw both men going back and forth throughout with viscious infighting. The rounds were so close that I had it 8-5 for Abe while my partner Rocco Del Sesto saw it 7-6 for Ohnaka when the fight was stopped due to Ohnaka's right eye being a bloody swollen mass with 2:29 left in the 15th and final round. The judges had it 9-4, 8-5, 8-5 for Abe in his TKO win.

Hiroshi Nakajima vs Shinichi Tamaki - This one started out slow which helped Nakajima keep things close. Tamaki came on strong in the later rounds however to win 7-5 and 7-6 on my and Mark Somogyi's cards. The judges had their hands full with so many pick em rounds early and scored it 6-6, 6-6, 7-6 Nakajima for the Majority Draw. Rematch coming.

Wolf Tokimitsu vs Keisuke Yokoyama - There's nothing quite as exciting as 2 sluggers of equal ability standing toe to toe for an entire fight. Both men hurt one another with Yokoyama getting the better of it for the most part when in the 10th round a lightning quick hook floored Tokimitsu for the count! I had it 6-3 Yokoyama while Lee MacRae had it 5-3 Yokoyama. The judges scored it 6-3, 5-4, 6-3 through the 9th round.

Rematch:

Hiroshi Nakajima vs Shinichi Tamaki - Tamaki was determined to take this fight out of the hands of the referee's as he battered Nakajima from pillar to post throughout until the referee ended the fight due to a nasty cut over the left eyebrow of Nakajima.
