Can I force a player to retire?

Is it possible to maybe force a player to retire by placing him at AAA,AA or A this way I get rid of his salary without cutting him?

Some of them are prime examples of digital obstinance. The only way to get them to retire is to hire a hit man.

It has been said that if the player is in A ball he is more likely to retire.

If you're lucky enough to get him to accept the assignment.

I find it helps to set aside time and have a nice, long conversation with the guy about the future and what he sees himself doing after retiring from baseball. Maybe I'll suggest he would make a good coach or something. Often, when guys are shown that they can still be an integral part of the team without being players, they are more willing to hang up the cleats.

Or you could hire a hit man. Perhaps Mike Easler.

If you're in the cheating mood, you can always slap a career-ending injury on him by editing the length of the injury to 254 (?) days. His long and text-driven career will be over. Heartless b*stard.

injury or edit his ratings so low that he'll sit in the free agency for a season, then retire.

I think the question is how to get a guy to retire in order to get out of paying out his contract, so solutions that include having him sit in free agency don't really apply.

What happens to a player's salary if he sustains a career-ending injury? Does he 'retire' immediately or do you have to pay him through the end of the season first?

you can edit a players salary when not in manager mode can't you? if so, you could change his contract status and move him to FA, where he will retire with crappy stats.

For season ending, it's 255.

He retires at the end of the season I think ... So you must pay him for the rest of the season, then he becomes no longer a part of your payroll.

You could just injure the guy for one day and put him on the DL. Then, when he's ready to come off, put him in A ball.

Does that really work. I actually have someone who just got injured but only for 3 days. If I put him on the DL and then after that to "A" ball he will retire?(he is 39)

I think it makes him more likely to retire, though I can't say that he definitely will.

i sat sean depaula in A ball ALL year after he took some horrible talent hits and he didn't retire - had to trade him with a draft pick to dump his salary

Like I said, some guys need a hit man to get the message. You could bust them all the way down to tee ball and they still wouldn't retire.

The point of the DL workaround isn't to force retirement, it's to force the player to accept the demotion to the minors. If you're playing with "Minor league option years" on, most veteran players will refuse to go to the minors and you'll have to keep them or release them, forcing you to eat the entire remainder of their salary.
