One of the best writing leagues on the internet has openings. It's a talent only league and has been around OOTP and online leagues for years (6 years in fact). We still have many of our original GM's around!
the MoneyBall Union Home We just converted to OOTPX last season and looking for a few good people to join our long standing league. tMBU has been around since real life year 2003 and we have over 20 years of player and team history in the league. We've suffered some growing pains as we switched hosting sites and lost a few owners due to the issues with the last patch but with over half the league dedicated to keeping our long-running league moving we are confident we'll get back "on top" in no time. There is a thread on our forums that list the current open teams and we're 1 day away from the draft so you'll have a chance to put your own "stamp" on a franchise right from the start. Relocations are possible but must be done through an official proposal (details are in the League Constitution). the Money Ball Union Constitution. Essentially we value our history over the satisfaction a new owner may have with a quick relocation. You need to earn the right to relocate by participating in the league and accumulating the points required to move a team. TMBU is a fictional, 24 team, talent-only league with tons of owner participation. We currently have a $90 mil salary cap. The tMBU isn't for everyone - we expect participation. It's what drives any strong league. We have a solid community of owners and our ex-owners pop in from time to time to see how we're doing. We SIM 3 times per week and have a rather quick season moving from off-season to off-season in about 2 1/2 months. Any interested parties may contact our recruiting coordinator, Jeff Pasquale, via email at jeff_536@hotmail.com or via PM (traderblue). It would also be helpful if you register for the league forums and post in the FAQ Newbies section. A simple post about you and your OOTP history would be helpful. Once you get the go ahead from myself or Jeff you can pick one of the available teams. Our forums are quite active and can be considered the life-blood of the league. We have a fine collection of owners that are dedicated to winning and passionate about their team. Our online community is somewhat like a family. We argue like brothers on occasion but we value the league and the sum of its parts more than our own personal goals. The talent-only aspect also sets us apart from many other leagues. It can make the job of evaluating players so much more challenging when you never get to see their ratings. If you have been performing well in other leagues and are looking for a challenge, I highly recommend a talent-only league. Come on over and join our league. We will welcome you with open arms. In my biased opinion, tMBU is the best league around. Join and find out for yourself. So, drop into the our forum, sign up and say hello to us all in our New Owners forum! |

It's a great league, gentlemen. Whether you're a veteran or just dipping your toe in the OOTP water, come check it out. Send me a PM or email if you're interested and we'll see about getting you set up. Good variety of teams available, including some that are rebuilding and others that are contending. Whatever you want to do as a GM, you'll find a team to your liking.

TMBU was one of the first leagues I joined. Despite the recent hurdles, it still remains my favorite. If you're a veteran or a beginner, this league is for you. Come on over and sign up today for your chance to be involved in this year's amateur draft.

I can only echo Brian and Jeff's comments.
Tom's one of the most solid commissioners you'll find, sims get run as regular as clockwork and even though the move to v10 and a change in website has seen a small blip in proceedings and has seen us drop a few GMs there's a more than solid core still in place and the vacancies should be seen as an opportunity for new guys to come in and get active in one of the best leagues going. |

Great league - I took a solid 4/5 year hiatus from OOTP, but am happy to be back in one of the best run leagues around. I have been in leagues with some of these guys since 2001/2002.

i enjoyed this league during my brief stay.
The commish is solid and consistent. The core of this league is a passionate group of owners who care about the league and the game. And they have some talented writers. |

I would also like to say I enjoyed my brief stay in TMBU. Great bunch of guys, very active league, and great writers too.
***update- I'm back in the league. Just couldn't stay away. Grab a team before they are all gone! Last edited by rutri01; 01-22-2010 at 02:43 PM. |

Hands down the best core group of owners around. So many of us were 4-5 league guys and have now decided to concentrate fully on tmbu. Can't get much of a better endorsement than that.

Starting to fill up, but still room for a couple more great owners. Let me know if you're interested.

Okay, potential owners, the MoneyBall Union is back up and running with a couple of owners still needed. Among those available are teams with a fantastic minor league system and one that's fighting for a division lead as we approach the trade deadline. If you prefer a challenge, well there's one of those available as well.
Please PM me or ship an email if you're interested in joining a fantastic league.

The league currently has a number of open teams waiting for enthusiastic GMs to come in and make them their own. The different franchises have different challenges so there's something for everyone, and this article will hopefully highlight the opportunities available for either grizzled veterans or rookie GMs.
Connecticut Crosscutters 2054: 77-85 (2nd in Young) B/f balance: $(9.7)m '55 payroll: $71.2m While the team is in the red at present it does drop almost $25m in contracts at the end of the '55 season in respect of Jacobs and Dejesus, neither of whom it should want to keep, so it's not a long term issue. The team has a top 3 in its rotation that's very solid in Ramirez, Johnson and Lewis plus an established young hitter in Plaster so, with the likes of Durso and Heatherley potentially improving the offense, the team should be competitive, if not strong. The farm system is ranked 3rd in the league so there's talent coming through, and with a young core and an improving financial situation this is a team a GM can come into and find himself competing with in a couple of seasons time with no real dramatic shakeup required. Georgia Rebels 2054: 95-67 (2nd in Williams, Wildcard) B/f balance: $17.8m '55 payroll: $67.3m So we have a playoff team with good finances, a manageable payroll, no expiring contracts in '55 and the reigning SL Pitcher of the Year. What's not to like? They are short a reliever or two and have lost their best rookie from last year (Takahashi) to injury but the second of those just opens the door to their top prospect Quinn to come up from AAA some time this year. Hanmer and Barkley headline a strong rotation, Polo and Gray are two of various useful talents in the lineup, and the Rebels also have the 7th ranked farm system. Anyone could come in and have fun with this team, in '55 and beyond. Minnesota Lake Monsters 2054: 75-87 (3rd in Mays) B/f balance: $(43.4)m '55 payroll: $69.2m Unfortunately not everything is as rosy in Minnesota as in other franchises, although Cavin should net them a couple of compensatory picks via free agency. Vanleuven is one of the best pitchers out there but with one year left on his contract he's either best used as trade bait or for 2 more picks next offseason, while hitting talent such as Gutierrez (who had an inexplicably bad '54 season) and Lovejoy are probably best off being traded away for a song if possible. In short, this is a full rebuild situation, not helped by a lack of affordable talent to be moved from the majors or a lack of current farm system. Someone coming in has to look long term in the knowledge that anything they do over the next 3 seasons is in terms of eventually putting out a competitive team rather than for the current standings. Rookie GMs really need not apply. North Shore Honu 2054: 88-74 (2nd in Koufax, Wildcard) B/f balance: $21.6m '55 payroll: $51.4m Similar to Georgia apart from a need to do more work with their rotation, since they lost a couple of veteran stalwarts. The good news is that free agency and the trade market has more good SPs available than normally, especially with the Honu being one of the strongest teams financially, what with their big market size and affordable payroll. Valazquez and Round can do a nice job rounding out the rotation, assuming a top guy or 2 are brought in above them, but the strength is currently in the hitting, with the likes of Bridges, Dalmau, Dotson etc all being high level talents. The farm isn't particularly strong but it doesn't really need to be at this point, since landing decent SP with large contracts via trade shouldn't really prove that expensive in this market. Like Georgia, anyone could come in and enjoy running this team for the next few years, although possibly a little more work is needed immediately to shore up the pitching. Phoenix Redhawks 2054: 56-106 (4th in Ruth) B/f balance: $8.7m '55 payroll: $66.6m Losing 100 games last season obviously isn't healthy but it does see them picking #2 in the draft and belies the fact the organisation has talent. Zambrano is ridiculously overpaid in this or any market considering he's one of many good hitters in the league, so Phoenix will have to put up with him hitting 40+ homers and driving in over 100 runs for 3 more seasons since no one else will be able to take on his $22m. He'll be the heart of an order that has talent in the form of Maddox, Conde and others, so there's no real reason to think they will be in the bottom quarter of offense going forward. The rotation was a mess last year, with their best options being misused. Jammer was inexcusably left on the DL all season for a 6 week injury, Toro was used as a reliever and their best (uninjured) reliever Prados was used as a starter. Switch this around and add back a healthy Stewart and there should be immediate improvement, and then wait for the farm system, which has enviable talents in pitching, to hopefully fill in the gaps (Rivera looks the nearest option). So there's work to be done and a GMs hands will be tied by Zambrano's contract to a small degree, but there is talent present and some scope for make moves so it's a nice rebuild situation that can be tackled by a newbie or veteran. If any of these organisations grab your fancy then jump onto the forum (linked previously) and state your interest. It's a friendly but competitive league that's always looking to improve - after all, we have long term GMs in place and other GMs that return to the league for good reasons. |

Great group of owners and great longstanding league. Definitely one of the best commishes, and if you are looking for the most realistic experience come take a look at our setup. Once you dive in it will be hard to join another league!
