Ping: Spritze
Hey there Spritzey, I have a question for you. I was thinking of starting a historical universe in 1901 consisting of the American and National leagues, plus 3 or 4 Minor Leagues that are unaffiliated with the Majors(I guess they would be considered independent leagues) here's the rub, I would like to use your DB and have every player enter the universe as a free agent, available to the highest bidder. First off,are there enough players in the DB to support this or would I need to add fictional players as well? Also, is this even possible, or does there either have to be a draft or players importing onto their historical teams?

Release all players. That will place them in the free agent pool, IIRC.

The Spritze db should have 1677 players available in 1901

The only way I know to do it in later years is to go into the master.csv file, sort the debut year and copy all the ids for that year's players to a text file. Open that text file and import the players one by one in the game, assigning them to the Free Agents.

An easier way may be to change the team abbrev in pitching, fielding and batting csv's to any non-existant abbrev (like FAA). OOTP will put them all into the free agent bucket automagically because if you choose to have them assigned to their original team instead of a draft and the team doesn't exist that is where they go by default.

Actually, Spritze's suggestion is a one time fix, whereas mine has to be done each season.

Yep. Open up the .csv files in excel and just change the team column to a non-existing ID. Everybody will import as a FA.
