Big Ten Expanding to 12 Teams
If they can get like St. Louis or a team from the MO Valley Conference that's in a Big Ten State like Southern Illinois or Illinois-Chicago or Node Dame I'm for it
I would also like to see all the Florida's teams in one Conference.

They can't call it the Big Ten anymore, eh?

It hasn't been the Big Ten for awhile. They have eleven now.

They are doing it mostly for football purposes so they can have a Big 10 Championship game which the NCAA currently has a rule that you have to have 12 teams to be awarded this.
That pretty much eliminates St, Louis, Southern Illinois or Illinois-Chicago whom Id consider having no chance in any case BUT.... Realistically, Iowa State, Pitt, Rutgers, and Missouri are the most likely candidates for different reasons. Notre Dame has already turned them down once prior and I believe they will turn them down again. Last edited by jbergey22; 12-17-2009 at 11:58 PM. |

Mizzou at least gives them St. Louis and (part of) Kansas City for market and Mizzou would be at least middle of the pack or better in both major sports. While Rutgers and Pitt are more academically viable, Mizzou's pretty decent too. Dame makes the most sense, but they're never gonna join and I doubt the Big 10 is even going to offer this time around. |

Why would Mizzou leave the Big 12?

Exactly. The Northern Big 12 teams are NOT real happy with how the revenue is split up in the Big 12 and on average each team makes less than the Big 10 teams.
I agree with your thoughts on Mizzou dudeosu as that is my first choice as well. The Big 10 seems to think Rutgers would bring the New York market to the Big 10 therefore that is one of the teams they are pushing hard for. As for Iowa State I believe they are the last resort but the Big 10 is really desperate for that 12th team so they can bring in more money with that conference championship game. The craziest darkhorse possibility is Texas. Texas was interested in joining the Big 10 in 1993 but the Big 10 bylaws didnt allow it. I really doubt they would leave the Big 12 and their rivalries but they are another team unhappy with the revenue they are bringing it currently. In addition the Big 10 bylaws were rewritten so Texas could be added now. Last edited by jbergey22; 12-18-2009 at 10:36 AM. |

So they're going to have to change their logo again. Too bad, I thought the current one was clever.

Wow, if Texas left the Big 12 to go to the Big 10, that would make one hell of a conference. We could look forward to Texas vs Ohio State every year and Texas vs Michigan. Texas vs Penn State.

Really, the only options I see are Rutgers, Pitt and Mizzou, with a ridiculously small chance of UConn or Syracuse or the infitesimal chance that ND suddenly changes its mind. |

Any Big East school would jump if offered according to sources. They would make close to 10 million extra dollars a year by jumping ship. http://www.projo.com/pc/content/sp_b...3.2e5dc10.html Last edited by jbergey22; 12-18-2009 at 04:04 PM. |

So, with the combination of ADD New Yorkers and a team that's probably not acheiving anything, I doubt that the viewership would be at all improved over other schools the Big 10 could add. Rutgers, as far as sports interest goes, is pretty far down the list in the NY area. There's already a pretty dense population of pro football teams in the region too. I just don't think the east coast has the loyalty towards college teams that the midwest and south have. Maybe I'm wrong here and NY natives can correct me. Mizzou at least captures the St. Louis area and parts of Kansas City. While there's still the Chiefs and Rams, the midwest college mentality should ensure theres going to be viewers for a game. Also, travel costs should be lower for a majority of existing Big 10 teams. |

It could be a good thing, or it could expose how overrated the Big Ten (and PSU, my favorite team, in particular) is.
