Soccer is basically take a nap time until they get to the 70 minute mark and realize they need to score a goal to win or return a goal to tie it up. Soccer would be quite enjoyable if they played the first 70 minutes like the last 20+ minutes.

Most teams tend to play the same way through the entire game.

The thing I hate about football (pro level, mostly) is that it's 5 seconds of action, and 40 seconds of watching the last play over and over while some fat former jock talks incoherently about it. In person it's great, like basically every sport is, but it's probably my least favorite sport to watch on TV that doesn't involve fishing or something. I also tend to prefer the college game, where it's more about the team and less about the individual stars, although as is also the case with college basketball, that's not really as true as it used to be.

I watched the entire Vikings game today without announcers. The feed had the field audio and the referee audio, but no announcers (except for a total of about 2 minutes). It was terrific. I also DVR'd it so I could skip commercials and the replay.

Very strange the scoring suddenly picks up so much in high level soccer in the last 20 minutes if that is the case. Is it that they decide to try once the clock hits 70?

If that were the case youd be right. I dont know that you see much of that however.

I usually see 0-0 or 1-0 until the 70 minute mark then we get to finally see some action.

Shrug. I've seen a lot of games where that first half decided the contest and I've seen some fantastic late game finishers.

The same can be said of any sport really. The worst offender, to me, seems like basketball. Seems like the last few minutes almost always decide that sport. Of course, I don't follow basketball at all so this is a casual observation...

I agree with this.

Truth be told I dont watch much soccer. Its just an observation on a very small sample size.

I used to be a nut for every sport from NASCAR to college basketball, but now I really only watch baseball. I haven't watched an entire race for a few years now, NASCAR is so pro-Dale Jr and there are too many commercials and "debris" cautions that it makes it unbearable. Not to mention the 8-hour prerace shows. I know they're fixing that next year, but it's too late to get me interested again. The NBA has never been on the top of my list, I try every September to watch, but I'm tired of seeing the Cavaliers on every TNT/ESPN broadcast and since I don't like the NBA, I don't care for college basketball that much anymore. College football used to be big for me, but recently it's just blah, I don't really care about it. I don't watch the NFL much either. Same thing, it's just blah.

Being that I'm from Australia my favourite sports have always been cricket and rugby league. My avatar is the old logo of the RL team I've supported all my life. I discovered American sports around '89 and '90, when I was 14, 15 years old.

I can still remember watching the Reds-Athletics World Series in 1990, the Blazers-Pistons NBA Finals and the 49ers-Broncos Superbowl. It was exciting, fresh and new to me and my friends, most of whom were only into the basketball.

Twenty years later I still follow all three but I would have to say that baseball is the superior sport. I say this because in baseball the rules don't really allow for a team to cheat their way back into a game like in football and basketball. There's no ball spiking, intentionally fouling or running out of bounds to stop the clock in baseball. If you're behind late in the game, your only choice is to score more runs before the other team records the 27th out.

Thanks to a new cable service provider, I finally got live NFL football on my telly on Sunday nights. So no, I'm defnitely not over the NFL. I'm just getting back in.
