Hall of fame troubling revelations
One of the player in the league retired and gave us that speech (look at the bottom of the post).
What the hell is that? Did anyone ever see something like that? What's next? Incest-related incident for the next hall-of-famer?? |

While it may seem indecent, it's a very real and plausible scenario.
I agree that it can be argued that it's not "appropriate" for OOTP, but for a game that strives for realism, it can be argued for inclusion as well. |

We manually indected this guy for sentimental reasons...
He was one of the best player of the league for 4-5 years before crashing down. Is it because of that drop in the stats that he admitted having problems in his speech? Or the game isn't that evolved?

I'm 100% pro-realism for OOTP. In fact, can we please get dynamic off-field character ratings added for OOTP11?
I'm guessing there was absolutely no prior indication of Migel's struggles with alcohol abuse, which is okay because it's not unheard of for a player to only admit these things to the public for the first time long after retirement (See Andre Agassi just this last month with his meth addiction revelations.) Still, it would be interesting if Migel had missed a few games for "unspecified reasons" early in his career, or even "after a night of heavy drinking". Perhaps Migel would have had a lower character rating earlier in his career and it would have risen over time, like an OOTP version of Josh Hamilton. Either way, I hope we get more off-field personality for the players in the next version.

Speaking of the Hall of Fame and personality, has anyone noticed if players who have tested positive for drugs/steroids are less likely to make it into the HoF?
Obviously, they are penalized for this IRL. It would be nice if there was an option whether or not to consider character issues when selecting HoF inductees.

I couldn't care less for these news stories, drug suspensions, angry players and the like. I would rather the next version steer clear of this nonsense and spend more energy and time developing a better BASEBALL game. This is an outstanding game as it is but still needs a few tweaks and add ons. Who cares if Migel had a drinking problem. You guys can make up any story you want OUTSIDE of the game, so get ride of that silliness and improve the scheduling, career record keeping and other little bugs. I would much rather open a guys file and see his record for most dbls in one game then to find out if he had a wife and kids.

Personalities (angry players)? Turn them off. Don't want drunken bar fights that result in off-field injuries? Go into the injuries file and delete those lines. You want to steer clear of this nonsense? Turn them off. |

I for one believe that the human element of OOTP makes it so appealing. If it was simply a baseball simulation with robotic players with no connection to one another, it would be doing realism an injustice. What makes sport so enticing and enjoyable are the human stories and the different personalities that come with each player. If OOTP was to completely disregard that part of the experience, it would quite frankly be taking a step backward.
I understand that OOTP will never perfectly capture this sort of realism, but any effort helps. It gives me an attachment to the players on my team and around the league, making it that much more fun to root for them and see them succeed. It is for that reason (among others) that I switched from Baseball Mogul to OOTP. If I wanted a pure simulation, I wouldn't be playing OOTP. I want an experience, and that is why I play this game. |

I'm not here to trash this game in any way. I know some people like the stories but I don't. Just my preference. I turn all this stuff all you can but the news stories are still generated and IMO take space that could be used in other areas. Like mass select for one.

I didn't realize there was such antagonism towards news stories. I thoroughly enjoy all the little perks that come to me in my mailbox. In fact, I shortlist players whose stories I want to hear about in my league. It's an important part of the immersion factor for me.

I agree with conception. Thoses stories give me a better feel of my OOTP world.
When we received the email, me and my friend were really surprised and we laughed a lot because my friend had that player in his team and at one point in his career, his ratings dropped. So it seemed amazingly realist that he had some personal demons. I'm really looking forward to the next induction into the hall of fame. |

And by the way, for those that have been criticizing the fact that this guy made it into the HOF, I have to say that he was manually indicted. We're a pretty young league and we like to induct players that have had an influence early in the league makings.

If you think about it and compare this story to some real life incidents it is very on point. Look at Mickey Mantle with alcohol abuse, or Ken Caminiti and recently Josh Hamilton. This story adds depth that some may not be comfortable with while bring light to the dark side of the fame, pressure and money of baseball.
