Dynasty Progression Poll

Right now,I'm in no man's land with my dynasty,so I'm asking for a little help with a poll.The question is this what types of dynasties do you enjoy most,and why? The types that are updated daily,weekly,monthly or yearly?

When I ran my Yankees dynasty I did 2 updates per season. One at the start of the year and one at the end. Seemed to work really well and wasn't too much work. With my current Cy Young dynasty I'm posting updates when Young pitches.

Guess it all depends on what type of dynasty you're running and what schedule works best for you.

Right now,I'm in the middle of a dynasty that is for the most part daily and I'm beginning to find it to be like "Groundhog Day" and I don't like it.It just seems like I'm writing the same things over and over with different names.Because of that,I'm thinking of switching to a monthly format,where after every month I give a brief synopsis for each division.Not sure yet though.

I haven't voted because for me it depends - if it is a single-season dynasty (like your 1985 one), I prefer each game or each series. That way I can follow the ups & downs of the season without finding out big parts of the season at once (i.e. every time I see a new post in the 1985 dynasty, I check to see if my Tigers won ). If it is a multi-decade/full history dynasty, like Gollum's Yankees, I prefer montly or yearly updates, since IMHO the focus in such dynasties is the big picture (i.e. the careers of players, the rise & fall of great teams, etc.), not the day-to-day.

This is where I run into my conflict,because I do really love chronicling the ups and downs of a League as the drama unfolds during a season,but I also would like to build up some history as well and as of yet,I've been unable to find that happy medium.

That is my thinking as well. For example, if you are managing a certain team in a year and going from year to year, a brief summary of the games on a per series basis would be best for me. If you are doing a full history of baseball, like I tried to do, then a summary on a yearly basis would be best.

I wouldn't expect anyone but me to take a certain team then provide box scores & play-by-play on a daily basis. That's a ton of work but I had the time to provide it.

Personally it isn't the times a dynasty is updated that makes me want to read it, it's what the dynasty is about. Unless there is a hook to it I'm not into the ones that read player a hit x ammount of homers, team b won x ammount of games. I want to read a story and not a stat line if you get my meaning specially with fictional write ups as I want to have a feel of what the players character is, I want to know if he's a drunk or a wife beater or does he visit kids hospitals every week, give your teams or players a personality and I'll read it no matter when you update.

Write at a pace that you enjoy. I tried to cram so much detail into the Pastime Baseball League early on, that the first season took forever. I was doing team-by-team wrapups every two weeks. That was stupid. Nobody needed that much detail. The monthly wrapup for each league works much better, then detail the pennant races and postseason. Seasons go more quickly and you can get deeper into your dynasty.

When I write my narratives I usually go about twice a month. I could easily see 'weekly' working well here because of the weekly league awards.

HaHa,sounds familiar,I've written 3 or 4 dynasties that went day to day(more or less) and by the end of the season,I was burned out so I moved to something else,where the same thing happened.I'm going to avoid that this time,because I'm really enjoying playing through this League and would like to see it go through multiple seasons.

Even monthly, I find myself sometimes feeling like I am writing the same things each month. The view count on mine keeps going up, so I figure folks are reading it. So, I've decided monthly is the right pace for mine.

Well,I tried the weekly update,and well I hate it,there's just not enough info for me.I'm going back to series updates until about two weeks left in the season where I'll switch to daily.

I've had one or two dynasties on this board before I stopped them for whatever reason and more than a few on other game boards for games such as NBA 2K10.

I've found what works for me is to just update with newsworthy events, whether that means going 4 months without an update or having three weeks of consecutive daily updates.

Choose whatever pace fits you though.

I've found I often enjoy my own dynasties more when I don't go into the process with a set pattern. That way, I don't feel like I'm "forced" to update, as if it's a homework assignment I need to complete.

Usually, I find myself updating more or less monthly when I'm following a league or a team. When I write a player-focused dynasty, I update when a noteworthy event happens in his career. If his team is playing in a championship series, maybe I'll update after every game.

I keep an eye on the view counter, too. I confess that when I see the numbers going up steadily, I'm inspired to keep playing and posting.
