.DAT file help/finding retired date
I was inspired by a post by OFG to find out when all my players retired. He told me they retired on two dates, the latter is covered in my almanacs, but the January 1st one isn't.
So, I went snooping and saw a retired.DAT file. Being cautious (I thought) I copied it to a new location so I couldn't mess with it. I opened it, and failed, I right clicked, and changed it to an Excel file...still failed. Now all the OOTP .DAT files are being recognized as Excel, not unknown, even though I only tried it on one, remotely placed file.
Question 1: These files seem to still work. Is it a problem that the computer thinks they are something they are not?
Question 2: How do I open these files?
3: If I get into the retired file, will it provide the year the player retired?
4: If 3 is no, how can I get this info without clicking on every retired player? I started in 1871 and am now in 1967, there are a lot of players.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help with any of these questions.
