My league started two weeks ago. I am hitting an awesome .375, but I do have a long ball.

PS In case you didnt know, .375 is about 225 points below the Mendoza line in slow pitch softball.

Right now I have the opposite problem, I keep the shortstop busy. Since I have just about zero speed, the SS has all freaking day to get the ball to first. I am sure sometime this year a SS will walk the ball to first just to show me up.

Just remember this: When it comes to swinging a bat in slow-pitch, most of what you learned playing baseball is wrong. Longer, looping swings are desirable. Compact, efficient swings are bad, m'kay?

oh yeah, baseball swings and softball swings are totally different. It took me a good year after getting out of high school before I could hit a softball

It works for me. I can't generate any power with one of those big-hitch, all-arms softball swings. Being lefty in a coed league is a great advantage. I probably get an extra 4 homers a year just by being lefty and smashing it over the heads of the women who are so bad their teams try to hide them in RF.

Once I hit one over a woman's head for a HR, and next time up to my surprise she was still shallow. So I hit another one over her head for another HR. On my next at bat she was so deep that I hit the ball in front of her for a 3B.

That was fun. I love being good at something.

The line for me:
3AB, 1 3B, 1 ITP HR, 1 1B, 3 R

I actually played my first season of slow-pitch when I was 19, in a church league. Man, them Christians is vicious! The jerks in that league put me off softball for several years. I didn't play again until about 5-6 years ago. Much more fun this time round. Probably because I can drink beer now.

Woohoo, my fraternity won the intramural softball championship at my university just a few days ago. Free t-shirt!

I went 5-6 in the last two games, with one inside-the-parker
(I'm not a big guy, so the fools in the outfield were playing me shallow) *I cranked it over their heads.

Only bad thing is I have a nice long scab across my shin now, after trying to break up a double play at second base, wearing shorts.

Have fun with your seasons

The league I'm in is also a church league even though I'm not that religious. Last season a guy got kicked out of a game for cussing. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. He got called out sliding into 3b and went ballistic. The second the "F" word exited his mouth he was out of there. He didn't go easily though. He proceeded to cuss out the ump on his way out of the park. The team almost had to forfeit.

Yeah, you dont have to be 30 to play. I have been playing since i was 20, and I am only 23 now. As a matter of fact, we only have one guy over 30 on our two teams.
