I will be picking up a copy of the book for myself as well as one for a Cub fan who's a friend of mine.

I'm a firm believer in supporting people who produce first rate product (much like OOTP)... the fact that you, Rasnell, are also a part of the OOTP community makes this a no brainer for me.

I'll be ordering a copy too. Congratulations Roger.

I don't post here much anymore, and quite frankly even when I did it wasn't that much to begin with. But I've been watching this thread from the start, and I'm going to be ordering it on Friday. I've been debating it for awhile as I'm not a big reader but this thread has finally sucked me in.

You should order it from Roger's web site, but you may want to read the Amazon reviews first:

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Root for the Cubs: Charlie Root and the 1929 Chicago Cubs

Heh, I like the comment about "I can't wait to see the movie." How about it, Roger? Any producers sniffing around yet?

A movie is a long shot, but we have some leads and some prospects to pursue after these initial months of marketing.

It's nice to have my marketing division help out.

I am the guest on Jim Scott's morning show on WLW Radio in Cincinnati on Friday.

The Cubs are in town so this gave me a shot in a great major league city to talk about the book.

That's great. Good luck with that.

BTW, I got your correspondence. Many thanks for taking the trouble.

BTW again, keep an eye out for talk about improved online league security with OOTP X. The board is overwhelming right now, so I cannot pin down what I thought I read on the subject. However, I believe you are in PM's with the principals on the issue so you probably are already aware of any news.

I finally had a chance to finish this. I found it to be informative and entertaining. I knew very little about Root prior to reading this and he will now be a player I pay particular attention to in my OOTP historical replays.

I agree with Bru in that the backdrop on Eddie Lautenbacher was fascinating. I love the nugget about receiving a golden pass for the Cubs to attend games at Wrigley and that he thought about his playing days and chance at the majors daily even at 97 years of age. It is too bad there was not enough material to write the entire book on Horne - I have always looked to add fringe fictional players in OOTP rather than ghost players because of players like Horne and Lautenbacher. There is not a major talent different between the guys in the high minors and the role players in the major league. I love to follow the careers of the cup-of-coffee guys.

The resource of Della and her journal was obviously an invaluable source that gives this book a flavor I have not seen in other historical recaps. It was great to see some of the season unfold in the eyes of a 10 year old girl.

I am curious. I noticed you refer to Root as "Charlie" throughout the book and baseball-reference has him as "Charley." Was there any consistency in your source material on which form was used? Did you edit the excerpts from Burns and other journalists (which are great by the way) to ensure the same format was used throughout the book, or did they also have it spelled the same?

Every summer I try to read a baseball book that recaps a specific season from years past. Thanks to this thread, this summer's book was a great read.

I almost did not notice this thread unless seeing it today because of Bru's bump.
It sure looks like a great book!

Thanks to all of you for your nice comments. My focus on that great 1929 Cub season stands in contrast to today. The Chicago Tribune and the Cubs were flush with cash and at the pinnacle. Today, they're in bankruptcy court.

But one thing remains constant -- still waiting on that World Series flag.

At the same book fair today as George McGovern and 1971 Miss America Phyllis George (kybookfair.org). What better time to buy a baseball book than the off-season?
