Modified Photo File

While not frequent poster, I do like historical sims. I have enjoyed the logos, parks, financials and photo data provided by everyone. One of my concerns with the photo pack is that duplicates overlay, so that I don't see the correct photo (e.g. Cliff Lee, Ken Griffey, etc). Manually changing them all the time is just too much work. I was looking for a complete set.

This mod changes the names in the master file to align with the photos contained in this mod. The master files which have been changed include the Original OOTPX master.csv, as modified by patch 4.31 and the three master files contained in the Gambo DB version 3.

For the photos, I have used the original historical photo pack (6/13/09) compiled by Gambo, t_wil1, PhillieFever, UKBAseball FAn, Ctrane, BEarfan14, Bill II, RUBE, & Splitter24. I have updated from the photo thread for the photo pack. Janapese players were pulled primarily from Peter Lin's Nippon League photos as well as other sources. The Negro player photos came from the Negro Baseball Players Association site. Players with no photo have a default assigned to them.

1) A photo for every player, even if it says No Photo Available.
2) All photos are 90x135
3) Names have been change to make them unique (e.g. Bob changed to Robert, use of middle initial, use of Jr., etc.)
4) To make the name changes work, I have also included a Master.csv file which matches the photos. Be advised you will have to delete the OpenDoc database file.

If you are interested, you can download here. It is the OOTPX Name and Photo Mod v3 file
HNBA Downloads

No update plans at the moment, but who knows. Just wanted to share.

Thanks for the quick reply- your mod looks like just waht I'm looking for- I'm afraid your computer knowledge is way beyond mine- once I download the PhotoMod 2 file how do I implement it into the existing database? Thanks again for any help.

I don't believe you can upgrade an existing league, but first.

1) Unzip the downloaded file
2) replace the C:...\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10/photos folder, with the unziped folder.

3) (And this is how I deal with different DBs) create a folder in the C:...\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10/stats folder, called 'original'
4) copy all the files from the stats folder into the original folder
5) create a folder in the C:...\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10/stats folder, called 'original modified'
6) move all the files in the Stats folder to the 'original modified' folder.

This should give you two folders in the C:...\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10/stats folder, 'original' and 'original modified'

7) In the 'original modified' folder delete the historical database file.
8) In the 'original modified' folder, replace the master.csv file with the one you unzipped.

Then in any historical league you create, point to the \My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10/stats/original modified/master.csv and you will get the names that match the photos.

For an existing league, you can copy the photos to your saved_games\xxxx.lg\news\html\images folder. I don't know of a way to modify the xxx.dat files which will contain the player names. However, there is only one photo with the name xxxxx_xxxxx so, you might get some improvements, you might get some that were right to be wrong as well. It will depend on the season and the player.

This is really intended to be something you start with.

Hope that helps.

Too bad you haven't made it before I've changed almost all the picture name (in the sets by year) to match the Gambo Database master files. It sure is a lot of work to do...

Didn't know. I have a master.csv for Gambo as well.

Bristolduke, doesn't deleting the historical database.odb file eliminate the ability to play with neutralized stats and if it doesn't why does that behemoth exist in addition to the Master.csv file? Just curious because I only play with neutralized stats, but I sure would love an easy solution to the "re-naming" issue. I suppose massive re-naming is better than seeing the modern day Mike Smith's mug in place of the 1926-1926 Mike Smith, or the 1984-1989 Mike Smith, or even more confusing because he overlaps with the third Mike Smith, the 1989-1990 Mike Smith.

The ODB file is a squished version of all the csv's. It exists so one can import complete history. Otherwise the history import will fail about 40% of the way through. The standard CSV's got too big for OOTP to handle.

It's faster and less problematic to load the complete history with the odb file. Maybe I'm wrong and that was improved in OOTP X since I don't use the database included with the game for my historic simulation.

My understanding was that the database was used unless you deleted it, regardless of options you selected. If you deleted it and then turned around and tried to sim 1990 and have all the historical data available as well, that is when OOTP timed out.

So you have to remove the datatbase and use the modified csv, in order to effect the name changes.

I am working on the new Gambo file as well, time permitting.

So where do the neutralized stats come from?

Talking Thanks Bristolduke

Bristolduke, thanks for your work on this. You think just like me when it comes to photos and you saved me a pile of time and effort to get it the way I want it. To wit:

1) All photos 90 X 135
2) Re-naming: i.e. no Ken Griffey Jr. where Ken Griffey Sr.'s picture should be etc.
3) No default fuzzy face gen dude when there's no photo available

Outstanding.

Just want to be 1000% sure before I start a sim with it: 1) if I delete the historical database.odb file, I can still play with neutralized stats correct? 2) Surely the easier way around your set-up suggestion (I don't mind taking the long way if it's the only way to do it) would be to copy the historical database.odb and the original master.csv into one folder and then delete the historical database.odb and write over the master.csv in the stats folder. Or am I missing something? Obviously, if you have leagues going that you want to continue, doing it your way and switching up the path to the database on the Rules page is the way to go. Thanks in advance for your response and again for your efforts.

Yes you can still play with neutralized stats if you delete the DB. However, before you do something drastic, there is another way.

The system I follow is to use different folders. So under the /stats folder I have the following folders

Original (what the game came with including the database)
Original Modified
Gambo original
Gambo modified
etc (I have some league specific folders for random arrivals)

That way I can keep the original file pristine and it helps me know what databases I'm oplaying with.

So create a new folder called whatever. Copy all the game CSV files from the original to the original modified. Then make the chamges to the master.csv.

Now when you create you league it will ask you for your master.csv file. Point it to your folder instead of the original folder.

This way should you ever want the database or something unexplained ever happens you still have all the original date files.

Call me paranoid, but I never delete any game's files. If I am modding, it is in my own folders.

I am just about finished with the new Gambo update. Hopefully in about a week.

The *2.csv files are the neutralized data. (e.g. batting2, pitching2, etc.

I have completed the update for the new patch. (Check top post). It will update both the original database and there is an update for the Gambo DB v3.

PadresFan, I tried to submit to your site but it wanted me to install Outlook. You are welcome to pull from the link and post the file to your site.

Cheers
