Troy Glaus left because the Angels didn't want him anymore; he signed for less money with Arizona than he'd been making in Anaheim. KRod only got a few million more per year from the Mets than he'd been making; they could have re-signed him if they wanted, but their management was savvy enough to realize he was headed for a drop-off. As for Teixeira -- what did you expect? Why would he have been more likely to sign with the Angels than any other team? Did you really think those two months he spent in Anaheim were going to instill some kind of organizational loyalty in him? Heck, they only acquired him because Atlanta wanted to dump salary.

In the meantime, it's not as if the Angels have been hiding from free agency. Guerrero, Hunter, and Matthews were all signed to contracts that looked really outlandish at the time.

I honestly get it when fans of teams like Toronto or Tampa Bay or Kansas City or Pittsburgh complain about how much money the Yankees pay out. When someone rooting for Anaheim, though, a team with an enormous market and shiny new stadium, complains about the Yankees, it drives me nuts. There's no reason at all that the Angels or Dodgers or Mets or Red Sox or Cubs or Phillies can't generate the same kind of revenue that the Yankees have. If you want to complain about anything, you should complain about how your teams' front offices did such a poor job relative to the Yankees at making money.

Can't say I feel bad for the Royals signing Gil Meche to ridiculous money. Nor do I feel bad for the Mariners who got hosed with Erik Bedard. It not just about having the money to spend, its about spending the money you do have wisely.

Can't speak for the Yankees, but I know the Red Sox have built quite a farm system through good drafting which is something you would expect lower market teams to at least out work the bigger market teams in.

Let's get this thread back on topic shall we?

I didn't get to watch the game yesterday, but I'm not surprised the Angels won. They played tough the first 2 games, and looking at the box scores and reading some articles, it looks like Girardi over managed his bullpen yet again. He needs to keep that butt on the bench and not always try for the lefty/righty matchup. Every time he brings in Marte, I cringe.

I agree with Dargone. This game is the swing game. The Yanks realistically only need to win 1 in LA, so I have to hope that the one game is tonight. If CC can repeat his magic, then we won't have to suffer Girardi's bullpen management

when i saw kazmir cleared waivers, i was a bit suprised the yanks didn't at least put in a claim for him. sure, the rays probably would have pulled him back rather than let him a division rival have him but at least then we wouldn't be facing him tonight. id feel much more comfortable having kazir tonight rather than CC on short rest. lets see how this works out tonight.

and before the yankee big $$$ hate starts, kazmir still has a pretty low salary and probably would have been about average for a #3 starter next year if we dont bring back pettite.

Interesting how an ump can make a call like that without being certain. Another really poor effort from an ump this postseason.

I wonder. Did the umpire say that Swisher left early because he thought he should have been picked off in the first place? Replays clearly show that McClellan (sp) wasn't even watching Swisher and that Swisher didn't leave early. However, replays clearly showed that he was picked off at 2nd base too. So, I guess they even out.

Sounds like some frustrating umpiring for both sides. Probably a good thing im listening to it on the radio instead of watching it. anyways....Go Yankees!!

That is what I thought.

Such a minor call, they're just trying to make it look like they're not cheering for the Yankees.

Apparently you no longer have to be on a base to be safe.

MM, give me a break.

McClellan is having an awful day at 3rd. There's no reason for him not to call that. He's the crew chief too. He should have at least asked for help on that one.

All I hope is that when Cano got back into the dugout, Girardi gave him an earful. What a bonehead move.

His thinking must go something like this - we screwed up one call so I'll call Swisher out when he should have scored, so I'll make up for it by blowing a call for the Angels. This drives me nuts.

that will be an interesting postgame explanation. i wonder if its something in the rules maybe? soscia listened to the umps explanation and walked away so we'll see, maybe its some tiny rule that us normal people dont know but umps do?

I feel like we're in a strange umpire twilight zone where they make up a call that goes against one team...then make up another call a minute later that goes against the other. Do they just figure if they screw both teams evenly, it's all ok?
