How are rookies, trades handled in historical sims?

I have looked through a lot of the great info here and the online help, but I am unsure how certain things work:

1. In a historical sim, do the rookies in 'RL' get automatically added to their historical team?
2. How are computer generated trades handled in future years? Do rosters revert to 'RL' in the next year? (I'm sure not)
3. If not, is it not possible that a gaping hole might be left for a certain position?
For example a star CF is traded in season for a computer run team, but there is no realistic rookie or team replacement for the next year. I guess the AI has to make a trade to solve it.
OTOH if you are managing a team, you have some knowledge of who is coming up and can act accordingly.
4. Finally for those rookies, how does the game have them approximate career abilities? Does recalc factor in 'RL' stats wiuth in game seasons?

I hope these questions are clear. Also, I apologize for the number of questions. Appreciate any thoughts.

No, it is an option in the League Setup tabs, to either have historical rookies added to a draft each year, or to have them automatically added to the team they first played for (in which case, you have to turn off the draft).

You are correct. The game is producing alternative history.

The AI doesn't make roster decisions that create holes in the lineup, nor does it make them based on in-coming rookies (since it doesn't know about them). Yes, you do have some knowledge that the AI doesn't have, and you can act on that knowledge.

The rookies get their ratings the same way that the original players do when you create a game. If you have recalc turned on, their ratings will change every season the same way that other players do. The only thing distinctive about rookies is this: whereas during setup nearly all the players will have ratings based on 3-years worth of stats (usually), the rookies will have their ratings based on only 2 years initially (because by definition they have no stats for the year previous to being rookies)
