Well, back in the old, original Roller Derby days there was a team in San Francisco (Bay area at least) called the Bay Bombers (back in the '60's or early '70's I believe).
In my solo league I have the SF Fog. I like the 'Quakes concept (although the San Jose Earthquakes have been a national soccer league team since the old NASL days in the '70's). How about the Farallons, after the islands outside the Golden Gate. For a historical touch keep in mind that SF was founded by Spanish missionaries back in 1776. Of course San Diego has had the Padres for years (MLB and PCL) and I think there was another PCL team that went by the name Missions. |

Well, I didnt catch the Diggers as being anything insulting. I thought it was just a reference to the California gold rush. But, then I have never been in with the in crowd.
![]() ![]() ANyhow, I did decide to move the Bombers from Tacoma to the Bay Area. And a friend of mine mentioned Storm or Thunderstorm as a name for a new Tacoma team. I've been busy this week was why I hadnt been around to look in. Real life sometimes gets in the way of things. ![]()

Tacoma Aromas
I always remember driving through Tacoma and for awhile visiting my older sister there when I was a kid and having my parents refer to the "Tacoma aroma", the nasty smell from the paper mills and factories. You could have some smokestacks in the logo with smoke billowing out.

I don't know if you've settled on your Tacoma nickname yet, but here are some ideas:
If alliteration is your thing... T-Birds Talons Tempest Tides Timberhawks Timberjacks Timbers Timberwolves Torpedoes Totems Trackers Trailblazers Trappers Tremors Tritons Pterodactyls Otherwise... Cascades Chinooks Highlanders Kodiaks Loggers Lumberjacks Pathfinders Rainiers Sasquatch Scouts (Sea)Gulls Sea Lions Seals Sockeyes Storm Summits Also, you can try substituting one of the following for Tacoma as the place name... Cascade Evergreen State Pacific (Pacific) Northwest Pacific Rim Pierce County Puget Sound Sea-Tac Western Washington

Yeah, I decided on Storm. But thanks. Isnt the Chinook the biggest Native American tribe in the state?

Tacoma Gerties (I'd thought of Tacoma Narrows, but Gerties sounds better)

I guess you've already gone with the Bombers but what do you guys think of Tremors or Aftershock for a Bay Area team?

When I was stationed there the effete natives would not call it "San Francisco" either. They call it "The City," as in "I have to go back into The City tonight." Under pressure they would admit that places like London were a city - but not The City. So I made a point of drawling out "Frisco" in my lovely Lower Rio Grande Valley accent (it sounded a lot like Pete Hutter saying "Br-r-r-r-isco" for those who remember Brisco County, Jr.) and it used to drive the effete natives mad. ![]()
