World Baseball League - "Hitting it deep since 2008!"

IOLD Listing: IOLD - WBL Profile
Home Page: WBL
Reports: WBL Reports
Forum: WBL Forum
Constitution: WBL Constitution

How the WBL Began
The World Baseball League was founded by Commissioner Matt Carlisle on June 6th, 2008. The league began with the release of Out Of The Park Baseball 9, which was released on June 18th, 2008. Matt has been involved in online leagues since 1995 and brings that experience in fantasy baseball to the WBL.

Some of the founding ideas and principles were borrowed (with permission) from other successful leagues while others were debated and discussed prior to the opening season by the original league members. A special thanks goes out to AllSimBaseball for providing the league hosting service and Major League Sim Baseball (MLSB) and the now defunct North American Baseball Alliance (NABA) for allowing us to borrow some of their rules and ideas for our initial season.

Where We Are Now
Just passed the ammy draft of the 2013 season. ASG voting is open and the game is coming soon!

Current Open GM Positions: Chicago White Sox & Washington Nats

Texas Rangers GM here....this league is very well run from the top. I've never had a winning season in this league but that hasn't detracted from the fun that it has provided. If you're looking for a solid league that will soon be converting to OOTPX (date still to be determined), this is the place for you. Looking forward to getting someone on board soon for the playoffs and beyond.

The Seattle Mariners have hired a new GM with 8 games left in the season. The league would like to welcome Buck Slater to the league.

With the 2012 regular season in the books, let's take a look back at some of the highlights from this past season.

* Albert Pujols became the highest paid player in MLB history when the Padres signed him to 7 year deal at $40.550 mil per season. He responded by posting his best season in the WBL and also leading the Padres to the 2nd best record in the league.

* The Jays came within 3 wins of breaking the record of 113 wins in a season. Great job Aaron!

* The Braves did break the record for most losses in a season with 110.

* Cleveland continues their consecutive division titles streak!

* Taylor Green (MIL) broke Joe Mauer's single season batting avg. record of .357 with his .359 avg.

* Green also broke the record for hits in a season with 226.

* Pedro Alvarez tied Ryan Braun's single season HR mark of 46.

* Sergio Santos (TOR) finished with 143 rbi which breaks Ryan Braun's record of 142.

* Continuing his record breaking season, Taylor Green bested Ryan Braun's single season VORP of 100.3 by posting a vorp of 108.3!

* CC Sabathia tied his single season record set back in 2009 with 23 wins.

* Aaron King (CHA) set a new record for BB with 125. That beat Jason Rice's 124 BB in 2010. Seeing as how they were both White Sox, should they consider a new pitching coach in the Windy City??

Will the trend continue?
Will we see more records fall in the post season?
Can the Mariners repeat under a brand new GM?

See those questions and many more answered starting this Thursday. Stay tuned!

I saw your registered user name on the WBL forum when it was sent for approval. I did not approve it because you didn't follow the procedure outlined above for joining. FYI, that is an invalid user ID also. If you are interested, then just follow the directions above and I will be glad to get you started.

Thanks!

Due to the version of OOTP that is required to participate in the WBL being overlooked, the Reds are searching for a GM once again. Please see the first post for more information.

The WBL will be starting it's off season this week. Most likely on Wednesday. This is the perfect time to step in as the Reds GM. Get a season under your belt and then we will be converting to OOTPX after this season most likely.

Updated the job openings in the main post. Perfect time to get in an established league that will be converting to OOTPX after this season. Get it, get settled, get to know everyone and prepare for the conversion!

Where We Are Now
The 5th off season sim is coming up tomorrow (9/28). We are well into our off season and getting prepared to start the 2013 season. Free agent bidding wars are heating up as are trades by teams looking to dethrone the champions. Get in while you can!
