Pitch ratings
I have a question.
There's a guy I'm targeting in my draft. His potential (no scouts) is 10 stuff, 9 mov, 8 control. He has 9 endurance so clearly he has the build of a starter... that being said, he only has two pitches, a fastball and a slider. Will he still be a top notch ace, or will the two pitches limit him to a bullpen role? |

There have a few discussions on this. But the general consensus seems to be these guys can be effective starters. Ideally, they would gain a third and/or fourth pitch along the way to cement their ability to start. But even if not, if they are good enough, they will probably still be effective starters. Maybe not as good as they would be as a closer, but probably still good.

I usually throw these guys on a pitch count even though they may not need one, the 2nd and 3rd time through the line up tend to be the time these guys struggle.

So a guy that's 8-8-8 with four pitches and 9 stamina is probably better than a 10-9-8 with 9 endurance and only two pitches?

At that point in time he probably would be better. But there's a chance the guy with 2 pitches will learn another pitch and become the better starter.

EDIT: I'll restate, I think he is a safer bet. The 10-9-8 two pitch guy has a higher upside, though with an associated higher risk. Last edited by TribeFanInNC; 09-11-2009 at 12:51 PM. |
