Sadly, text simulation games such as strat-o-matic, APBA, DKSports, and several others have less and less of an audience each year. Table top games have taken even a greater hit. Both computer and tabletop games have more of a cult following with most being 35+.

The red bull generation have adopted madden, nba live, and so on and will continue to follow that path. I assume someone will eventually combine the two, most likely in football or baseball and corner the market.

Of all the games, I enjoy Titlebout Boxing and Strat-o-matic professional basketball most.

Richard Hanna is an excellent programmer of sports sims. Among others he's done Second and Ten Football and Replay Baseball. He's based either in the UK or in Australia.

I wonder what it would be like if we had enterprising folks with a passion for the game. Wonder how much the rights for the game are and ifwe could get a bunch of us to pony up some dollars to put this game on steriods.

He's based in the UK, he runs Roogames (I think). It would be worth contacting him.

Sounds like what we need is for one of us to win the lottery and hire the programmer or we all club together and hire a programmer!!

Winning the lottery would be an idea

The problem is to find a programmer who wants to work for free. If TBCB could easily pay a programmer, I would hire one.

Question Andreas, if things do not open up in terms of a programmer anytime soon, would you be willing to open up for game for modding?

One example would be to alter the auto schedular to set more definitive parameters such as.
  • Don't schedule Boxer A against anyone he has fought in the last 2 years
  • Only schedule against a top 10 opponent
  • If Boxer A holds a title it will be defended
  • Incorporate a running calendar
  • Only fight other Boxers rated at same career stage (beginning, pre-prime, etc)

That would be great. Title Bout has truly evolved into an International Game. We have programmers, contributors, writers, raters, and a supporting cast from about 6 or 7 different countries.

I would guess this rules Richard Hanna out then.

Guess that means TBCB is not selling well then. Maybe Javier has someone in mind?

I think the game was already really good in Version 2. The multilple career stages was a huge waste of programmer time. They should have spent time with an injury tracker instead. The game had the aging option. It needed the multiple groups option which it got. Just fix a few bugs here and there, add a few bells and whistles to make the game look better, like scouting reports and enhanced fight screen details, and it would have been a genuine improvement. I stopped using version 2.5 when the game kept erasing titles, but I lost real interest when I realized they had radically altered the single career stage and made that aspect of the game unnecessarily complicated.

If it were possible, I'd suggest to Andreas that he go back to Version 2 and just add things that players asked for.

Who's been programming the game up to now? Why can't he continue to do so?

Okay i guess this is kind of a catch 22. If the programmer does not get paid why would he program and if we cannot find a programmer that will work for free then nothing will change. Wow that really stinks. Does this game truly make nothing? I wonder what the cost would be to buy the game.

I wish elements from WMMA 2 and TB2.5 could be mashed together...that would be an awesome game

When the Trunzo's owned the game they found a programmer who was studying computer programming and for his degree thesis he programmed Title Fight 2001 for free. It was a long, drawn out process with much heartache and grief along the way.

I missed that version, was the final product workable despite the 'grief'? It may be something to consider again (if such a person even exists out there).
