OOTP History - Suggestion
Jeff,
Any chance of a future updated version of OOTP History 5.0 that corrects the changing of players' names when importing the data from *.csv files? For example, when creating the *.csv files, players names are correctly spelled - Joe McGinnity. However, when running OOTP History to create the Access files, the above name is changed to Joe Mcginnity. Mind you, it's not a major problem. I can easily go into the master Access file and change the names back. Just wanted to bring it up as I believe it was correctly in ealier versions (for OOTP4). |

Addendum:
Another suggestion - when the program asks to assign a team for a player (because they are in the free agent pool), some players are not selected. Am I to assume that the program selects players from the free agent pool based on at bats? Wouldn't it be better to base it on games played in the majors leagues? Mind you, what I've found for the players not being listed for team assignment are pitchers with only fractional innings pitched (1/3 or 2/3) and no at bats. I haven't come across any instance where a player played a game (as a defensive replacement or pinch-runner) not being included as well. Otherwise, can you recommend a workaround to include those players in the free agent pool not initially selected for team assignment by the program? |

Addendum 2:
OK - I found a working solution to my previous addendum. For others who are interested, here's what to do: 1) Before running CommishJoe's Exporter utility, make a list of all the players in the free agent pool that played at least 1 game in the major leagues (this takes into account my previously mentioned problem of pitchers not being included because they only pitched 1/3 or 2/3 innings). 2) Assign the corresponding team ID number to each player on your list. You may need to open one of the *.csv files to find the number assigned to each team. 3) Once team ID numbers have been assigned to each player selected from the free agent pool, open the player.csv file in Notepad (make sure that word-wrap is toggled off). 4) Use the "find" function in Notepad and type in the last name of one of the players from your list. Once the player has been found, scroll over the numbers listed until you come across a "-1". Set your cursor over the " - " and hit the delete key twice. Type in the team ID number for that player. Then repeat the process for all the other players on your list. 5) Once you've finished, save the document. When you then use OOTP History, the box that normally pops up and asks you to assign a team to a player will be bypassed. Thus, every player who played at least one game in the majors will have their stats listed in their OOTP History player page. Note: DO NOT USE EXCEL when making the above changes in the player.csv files. If you do it will make changes to the file that cannot be read by the OOTP History utility. Use Notepad when making your changes. |

Okay, I changed the SmartCase function to look for names starting with "Mc" and make the next letter a cap. So, "Mcginnity" becomes "McGinnity".
As for the free agents, the next version (5.1) automatically assigns them to their proper team(s). I think this should work for all players, but check it out and let me know if it still misses the very low AB/IP guys.

Cato, I also have some other suggestions. Could you have like lists for teams like 'Best Winning % All Time', or 'Most Championships', etc.. and for managers 'Most Championships' or 'Most Manager of the Year' awards and a list just like the career leaderboards? Just a quick idea.
