I agree. I have put forward this idea before and naturally I stole the idea from Baseball Mogul (sorry to put 4-letter words in this forum).

The extra file in BM not include a selection of pitches for a pitcher BUT actually give the pitcher a new line in the textfile for each year.
This will cover the fact that some pitchers do change pitches over the years.
In the fictional part of OOTP this works probably great with a new fictional pitch just added, but historical I think we all like to have that extra pitch or even pitch stopped used by a pitcher to actually happen.

IMHO it will enhance the game very much.
(then it´s much easier for guys to edit and adjust that single file with all extra info that can be dug up. Just look at financials and injuries)

Up to today only the knuckleballers seams to get correct pitch, but soooo many classic pitchers had their signature with a certain pitch.
You have put it into the master.csv file, but obviously it doesn´t work. Working over each and every pitchers for every year in a dynasty game is just too much.

I´m sure the fictional players work fine, but this can´t be too much of a fix and it must be made if this is the last patch.

I´m begging on my knees and kissing the ground you walk on in a hope that you will fix this.

I was wrong NOT EVEN the knuckleballer works.
Made a test recently and Wakefield popped up with fast, curve, slider.
Shame the poor old guy stays alive thanks to his knuckler

Last I heard,Garlon was working on this and it hadn't been finished.I've been drooling over this feature as well. What bothers me more though,is players like Smokey Joe Wood,Dizzy Dean,Ron Guidry,Steve Carlton and countless other historical MLB starters importing with only two pitches, making them bullpen fodder instead of the pitcher's that they actually were.

Amen brother, AMEN! Add to that the others who may have 3 or more pitches but a stamina of 1 or 2 on the 1-100 scale for some unknown reason even though they were starters most of their careers. This has to be fixed.

Maybe an easier solution would be the option to turn pitches off? After all, how many of us actually know what pitches the Reds fourth starter used in 1933?

Yeah, tomorrow's the last day of August. If the patch isn't out by 0000 GMT Tuesday I'm gonna become seriously mildly irritated.

Same here.

I understand that OOTPOL might be a revolution for online leagues, plus I'm sure it will exponentially increase the game's marketability, but I'd personally be disappointed to see the other more important (IMO) issues get placed on the back-burner indefinitely.

So without raising the despised "When will it be released" question, what's the general timetable for OOTPOL vs. OOTPXI... if there will even be such a thing? Like, are we looking at a spring release for OL and a late summer for XI, or maybe "sometime next year" for OL, to be followed by OOTPXII in 2011? I'm just curious where this train is headed at the moment.

I said even before OOTP Online was "announced", I thought that OOTP 11 wasn't going to be until Opening Day 2011.....

And I'm not even "in the know".

Well I hope Markus doesn't shoot himself in the foot with having too much on his plate and understands where his bread and butter is, this OOTP game. Don't give us the patches we need in a timely fashion and many of us will jump ship!

Ignoring this forum isn't in his best interest either and some are upset with his lack of input here lately.

I understand that Markus has been on vacation, and considering how much time and effort he puts into OOTP during the "regular season", I'm sure it's well-deserved.

Still, after he returns from vacation and knocks out the final patch (I'm personally not too concerned about this patch, since I'm certain it won't fix anything that's high on my agenda) and once any new bugs are squished, here's what I wish would happen...

I'd like to see Markus take a few weeks and just spend some time interacting with the OOTP community, on this forum, PM and email. I'd ask that he just spend some time getting feedback and answering questions.

Ultimately, OOTP is Markus' baby and whatever he chooses to do with it is his business. But I agree that it would probably be in his best interest to seek input from his base.

I've been an OOTP loyalist since almost the very beginning. I purchased my first version of OOTP back in 2000 (actually a friend bought it for me as a gift, but I requested it) and I have purchased every single version since then. And over the years, I've had a ton of requests, probably more than just about anybody. Yet I think I've only received a couple of direct responses (either to forum posts or PM's) from Markus over that entire span of time. Granted, a few of the features I requested eventually made their way into OOTP, but the bottom line is that I never really knew to what extent my voice was being heard. I know he works tirelessly for months before and after each release, so naturally I don't expect him to waste too much time chatting it up on the forum while he's coding a new version or working on patches. Nonetheless, I wish he could squeeze in a little "quality time" with us every once in a while.

Again, whichever direction Markus wants to take this franchise is up to him, but I just really wish sometimes that he would be a little more forward with us, especially those of us who have supported OOTP from the get-go. Maybe he could allow at least some of us a direct audience with him, giving us a chance to express our thoughts and ideas, then candidly tell us what he thinks and whether they're something he might be willing to implement or not. Because if he isn't, it's not like we're going anywhere. I seriously doubt he would actually drive any of his "loyalists" away by simply being honest with them. (We're all grown-ups here. We can take it. )

Here's the thing: There have always been different factions in the OOTP community with opposing ideologies in terms of what's important to add or fix in the game. And I'm not saying I believe one faction is wielding more influence than another, but sometimes the lack of direct communication gives the impression that some community members might be (even inadvertantly) acting as "gatekeepers" to prevent those with differing views on OOTP's future from having their voices heard clearly.

Now, the last thing I want is to come across as a conspiracist here, and like I said, I don't believe anyone is consciously doing anything untoward (and truly I don't even have any individuals in mind) but I think it would be human nature for someone who had easier access to Markus' ear to want to use that position to further their own agenda.

So if Markus were to open up a dialogue with the OOTP rank-and-file during this off-time before work begins on OOTPOL, I think it would be received as a tremendous act of goodwill to his dedicated fans.

Whatever happens, though, Markus can count on a check from me when OOTPOL is released, and another one for whatever comes next, and so on for as long as he codes new versions. If nothing else than for his body of work so far, he's earned that.

Hey guys,

small update: I have been fixing a lot of bugs, and the first beta of the patch will go to the testers today. If all goes well, then I think we will be ready to release the patch sometime next week.

After that we will start to discuss OOTP 11 features, and I will definitely make this an open dialog with the great fan base on this forum. Sure, we have already some things in mind, but I am sure you guys will help tremendously fleshing out some of these ideas!

I'll keep you updated!
Markus
