Pitchouts.....
I think OLTP5 is great. One thing I wish would change, though, is seeing "xxx will not get a good jump here" on a pitchout. I think the runner should be dead meat 99% oft he time when they attempt to steal on a pitchout. The other 1% they could get they could go to either base due to an error, or poor rundown play.
But to just stand on base when a steal was called ... I don't think that's right....... Just a thought !!!!! |

I've always found the stealing in this game to be somewhat of a mystery. I've always been under the impression that you, as the manager, give the "green light" sign, which tells the runner to go when it feels right to him. So it's not necessarily a "Go on this pitch or I'm sending you back to the minors."
That's why (much to my anger), you are sometimes unable to steal at all because you get two strikes thrown before your runner decides he can "get a good jump." If he doesn't go sometimes on regular pitches, it isn't surprising that he doesn't go sometimes when there is a pitchout.

But I mean what does a guy like Tony Womack have to wait for? I mean I'm telling you to go, and it's not like he even needs a good jump to steal a base. Trying to steal bases can be quite frustrating.

Yeah I know, but he's rated A and A. Why can't he get a good jump? There are times he leads off the game with a single, and I have him steal, and he won't get a good jump until the THIRD batter.
Plutoro, I often do that. I've had enough with the "can't get a good jump" syndrome. So instead I just hit and run, and regardless of what the batter does, a guy like Womack usually gets to second, whether it's a batter swings and misses, and he's safe, or batter hits a ground ball to third, throw goes to first. Now sometimes he gets caught when the batter swings and misses. That cannot be avoided, and I know that. The part about that that I hate is when the dumb batter hits a fly ball. That gets me nowhere. |
